We received warm welcome by FOH staff. We had a reservation and were assigned to the one of those tables facing to the stylish square pond. There were 4-5 tables. Each table was square and had 4 chairs. On our table, the 2 serviette and 2 sets of cutlaries were placed on 2 seats next each other over the corner of the table.
When I was about to sit down, my husband left for the lavatory, so I became alone. I noticed my chair rocked like a rocking chair and I looked for any staff to ask for a help. I was standing and looking around very vigorously to catch the attention for nearly 2 minutes but nobody came. Everybody was walking so fast minding his/her own business. I had to call one waiter with a rather loud voice and a tall guy with glasses came. I explained the problem and asked him to exchange it with other excessive 2 chairs at our table. He tried them but both rocked badly like the first one. He said,
“See? This is not caused by chairs. This is caused by the floor.”
(The restaurant floor surface was not smooth and paved with natural rocks.)
I looked around but there was no other available table to move to.
He then walked away simply leaving me there without any solution and even the word “sorry”. I could not believe him. He didn’t even try to talk to senior staff to consult what he can do for me. I was dumbfounded. So, I decided to sit opposite of my husband instead of next which must have been looked very very odd. Nobody came to move my serviette and cutleries accordingly. My husband came back and found out what happened. He immediately tried to complain about this to any staff but again, nobody is paying attention to us. All staff looked like robots focusing on only their responsibility without any feeing. Yes, they were without hearts. How could they miss us? We were getting really angry but finally a senior staff came to our table to take orders and moved the serviette and cutleries to then current seat of mine. He was nice and apparently experienced in service. We felt like he saved our night but soon, we got to know it was not true.
The food served was not great enough for us to recover our bad feeling towards poor service. It was just okay and very boring. We could not sense the difference in 3 coloured and flavoured tortillas. They tasted same. Mogo Mogo and Beef Tongue were good but other dishes were not exciting at all. The chocolate cake was so heavy and not appropriate as dessert.
This is why I don’t believe “Michelin star”. (My husband does unluckily) How come such a restaurant could get a star? Definitely the worst service I’d ever got. There are some more pleasant and great restaurants in Oaxaca. So, research more and go to one of those. I absolutely NOT recommend this restaurant.
Ceviche 5* (order this each time we visit)
“Dry noodles” 3*- nicely plated but rather bland
Stuffed chicken breast 3* w/ mole Chicken was prepared ahead and dry.
Jimmy’s margaritas 5*
Salad w/cauliflower and figs 3*- too little dressing, some of the greens were tough.
Mushroom lasagna 5*
Moles with plantain fritters 5*
This is the third time we have visited this restaurant. Food didn’t impress us this time except 5* items above. Our dining experience went downhill early on when a woman/mngr? and another server came and hurriedly cleared our plates before we were finished with the complimentary breads and spreads. My husband actually asked what is the rush as they pulled his plate away. There was no comment to this. Appetizers were ready too soon and brought to us in a big rush and flurry of clearing. This is so out of character with what we’ve grown to appreciate in Mexico, that it is worth mentioning. Our waiter, noting what had taken place earlier, was generous with timing for us so that we didn’t feel rushed for the remainder of the meal.
Oaxaca has many outstanding restaurants and until this winter, I would have said this was our favorite. Doubt we will be back.

Los Danzantes was arguably our best overall meal in Oaxaca. It was a close call, but the sheer quality of the dishes tipped the scale to make it our absolute favorite. As with many things we ate in Oaxaca, nearly every course was the best version of that dish we’ve ever had.
⠀
The Highlights:
* The Best Bite: The absolute standout was the beef tongue tacos with crisped Oaxacan cheese. It was quite possibly the single best bite of food of our entire trip.
* The Entrees & Apps: I had the mushroom lasagna in a tomato sauce—easily the best pasta meal I’ve ever eaten—and my wife had a perfectly cooked mackerel in a delicious butter and herb sauce. We also shared the roasted carrot appetizer with pink mole, which was incredible.
* The Birthday Surprise: We came here to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and the restaurant went out of its way to make it special. They surprised her with a complimentary dessert, a sparkler candle, and quietly played a happy birthday song over the speakers. It was a wonderful touch.
* The Drinks & Atmosphere: We each tried at least two drinks, and they were all very good. The open-air dining room itself is absolutely stunning and made for a beautiful evening.
⠀
Things to Keep in Mind:
* The Service: The service was very good and attentive, though if we had to compare, it was just slightly edged out by the service we had at Levadura de Olla.
* The Value: For a Michelin-star experience, this was remarkably affordable. After a 20% tip, our total was $191 (USD). This included two appetizers, two entrees, four or more drinks, and the birthday dessert. You simply cannot beat that price for this caliber of food.

Overall, an unforgettable meal in a gorgeous setting. We cannot recommend it highly enough.
However, while the food looked impressive, the flavors were only average. We felt the dishes lacked finesse and depth, though this may also reflect the naturally heavy style of Oaxacan cuisine. Portions were quite small for the price, which made the overall value feel disappointing.
It was an interesting experience to try once, but not a place we would rave about. Worth visiting for the ambiance and service, but the food did not fully justify the cost.
Perhaps my best recommendation is to say we look forward very much to a return visit in the future!
The setting of the restaurant was prefect, service left nothing to ask for, great conversation with the waiter and the history of the mezcal they served. Food was incredible full of flavor pork ribs so tender pulled apart with a fork. I dont like traditional mole but this mole over chicken was sweet but not to much and full of flavor. The puree sweet potatoes are
We also tried the started tacos with octopus and pork. Wasn’t sure how we were gonna like it but loved it. Salsa went well with everything!
Definitely recommend splurging when you visit. You wont regret it!
Service strikes that perfect note—attentive yet relaxed—allowing the evening to unfold at an unhurried pace. It’s a restaurant that feels special without being formal.
A memorable place to savor the depth and beauty of Oaxacan cuisine.
