Social Profile:

The Fishtrap Restaurant evolved from 10 years of catering parties, weddings, Farm Bureau dinners & Sunday buffets at the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society. The business moved into the building now housing Flavor Restaurant. In 1971, a complete kitchen was installed and that began seafood and Mexican take-out with a sit-down dining room upstairs. Barbara leased Hazel’s Restaurant in 1978, changing the name to Paul and Barbara’s Fishtrap. It was an immediate hit! Paul was the local harbormaster and after he died, it was renamed Barbara’s Fishtrap. Barbara is grateful to her customers for the ongoing success that helped her purchase the almost 100-year-old building that Barbara’s Fishtrap calls home. The Fishtrap success is attributed to our f

Why 4 stars….service, food, atmosphere, and clean bathroom.
Service was great!
because it is a hotspot/tourist spot/everyone tells you to go there… There was a 45 minute wait. I Decided to stay and wait since we were already there.
we were called over the intercom and there were two Tables for two available and we got the one where I could face the door (I like to see who’s coming through the door).
We shared a bowl of clam chowder, a catch the day fish sandwich and we asked for the fish to be grilled (cod – which is the same fish they usw for fish and chips), tempura scallops.
The scallops were great!
The open face sandwich was good and came with all the trimmings (lettuce, pickles, Tomatoes)
The clam chowder to me was okay. It’s their recipe…I’m used to old fashion recipe.
our food came with steak fries, and coleslaw, which were a great sides.
we also ordered One beer and one beverage.
Wait staff was on point.

I probably wouldn’t go back Because of the wait for a table, as well as as for ordering out. also, parking is first come first serve across the street otherwise park somewhere else.
If I do go back, it will be for the coconut cake, which was amazing fluffy, Not so sugary but damn amazing

My wife and I have been coming here on and off for over 40 years and it’s a memorable place for us. The latest development is a senior fish and chips menu that is just 2 pieces instead of the plateful that normally comes. It’s a good thing for us and there’s no waste.

Parking was pretty easy and only a short wait. A good option is to order ToGo and eat at one of the spots they have outside with a nice view of the bay.

Barbara really knows how to trap that fish!

The line might look long, but it goes pretty fast and once you order you’ll get your food pretty quickly!

We really enjoyed the clam.chowder in the bread bowl. Tons of clams, good flavor, and the bread bowl is fresh and soft (by bread bowl standards) they also give you enough soup to fill out the bowl a couple of times.

The fried fish and calamari were both great. Although, I think the fish edges out the “famous” Calamari! If you like fries, def get a side as the portion with the fish / calamari isn’t a ton!

Can’t wait to come back and try more things! Also a great vibe eating right by the beach.

The food was great. Simple and delicious. I had a tuna sandwich and it was great. The clam chowder was also a hit, especially in the bread bowl. The view was fantastic. It was cold and the sun was hiding but it was still a great spot.

Seafood, Burgers, Fries and more is where “portion control” goes to die. This Barbara’s Fishtrap in Half Moon Bay offered a culinary vector of fried abundance that all can enjoy. Recommended to eat nothing until your stomach needs food then go here. Award Winning fish and chips, Chowder Bread Bowls, salads, breads and fried whatever you want is in order. Greasy yes but it made me feel more energized rather than sluggish. Sauces tarter, cocktail sauce, ketchup, mustard, mayo dip it all.

If your ever in Half Moon Bay, you’ve gotta try Barbara’s Fishtrap. Forgot to take food pics due to excitement! We ordered the Fish & Chips, and the Ringy Dingy Calamari to share. I think the calamari was my favorite. The portions are very generous, and the food tasted fabulous. Line was a little long, but it moves pretty fast, and they move the food out pretty quickly also. You can sit outside, and enjoy your meal with an ocean view.

Absolutely amazing oysters and the best clam chowder in my life! Price is pretty reasonable for ocean view restaurant $80 for 2 people for a very good dinner in a family restaurant. We definitely will come back (from Sacramento) just for these oysters and clam chowder!

We arrived within 10 min of the restaurant opening and took the last table. It’s worth the wait if you have to. The staff is friendly and efficient.
The clam chowder was very fresh and tasty. We tried most tempura items (fish, scallop, shrimp, zucchini, and more). Everything was flavorful but hands down the scallops were the best. I’d order a plateful with some cheese bread.
The bread on my fried oyster sandwich was perfectly toasted. I added the coal slaw to give it freshness and crunch. The steak fries were hefty and filling. The zucchini was a perfect side.
We walked away completely satisfied. The portions are shareable. We will be back for more.

I like Barbara’s Fish trap. The ceviche is the best. It had the right amount of onions and cilantro if you like onions and cilantro. It is served with a side of pita chips. The fish and chip were good as well. The fish tastes fresh. The atmosphere was unique. It is a spot on the side of the harbor. We enjoyed sitting at the picnic tables along the side of the restaurant. We will definitely return to try other dishes.

I’ve eaten at a lot of seafood spots and this is one of my favorites because of their scallops tempura. I’ve only ever ordered this dish, so I can’t say anything else about the rest of their menu but this place never disappoints! The reviews don’t lie, this seafood spot is superb! Service is quick and friendly too.
