This was my first time at this restaurant, and I was really impressed! The food was flavorful and well-balanced—I didn’t need to add any salt, pepper, or ketchup. I usually put ketchup on my eggs, but the flavors were so consistent that I didn’t want to mess with it. Everything blended really well.

The only thing I didn’t love was the iced chai with oat milk and dairy-free whipped cream. It tasted more like oat milk than chai and a bit syrupy, so I probably won’t order that again.

Customer service was amazing! The hostess/cashier was friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the menu. She explained the ordering process clearly and gave great suggestions for my dietary needs. I’m new to managing celiac, a minor egg allergy, and lactose intolerance, and she helped me customize my order safely.

I had the Healthy Hash—sweet potatoes, potatoes, kale, red onion, garlic, tomato, with soyrizo instead of chorizo, topped with crema and Just Egg plant-based eggs. I also got the gluten-free sourdough toast (vegan-friendly) and opted out of sour cream. The meal was delicious and satisfying!

The restaurant itself is tidy and aesthetically pleasing. Tables are great for small groups, and the booths are perfect for catching up with friends. The vibe is cozy and homey, and even the restroom was clean and well-maintained.

I really appreciate places that accommodate dietary restrictions, and this restaurant went above and beyond. I will definitely come back when I’m in town!

Came here with my girlfriend after hiking Cowles Mountain on Veterans Day. There weren’t many peolle so we were seated right away. We grabbed menus before sitting, and we got water as we looked through the menu. We did have to go back up to the counter to order. We got our orders quick. We ordered the Crab Benedict and the Yogurt & Granola Bowl. The food tasted as good as it looked. The egg on the Benedict was cook great, snd it went well with the crab patty. The Yogurt & Granola Bowl was not overly sweet. The staff was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was quiet enough for us to have a pleasant conversation. There were two unisex bathrooms, when we’re clean and maintained. Parking was plenty with it being in a shopping plaza. I would come back for more.

Food is amazing! After hiking Cowles Mt, we decided to give this place a try and we were not disappointed. When you come in, you place your order, pay at the counter, and your food is brought to your table. Great customer service!
***Came back a month later and tried the Healthy Hash. It was delicious!!

I had the 3-egg machaca and opted for the sweet potato fries and English muffin. It was delicious. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is inviting. Will definitely come back.

Exceptionally friendly staff. Very chill ambience. Outstanding food. Can’t recommend The Trails Eatery highly enough. Perfect place to refuel after Cowels Mountain. Shoot, even without the hike it’s still an ideal place to go for breakfast!

5-Star Review

The food is the standout reason for my 5-star rating—everything arrived quickly, hot, and full of flavor. Portions were generous, and it was clearly a popular spot when we visited on a busy Sunday morning. That said, I wasn’t a fan of the ordering system. You place and pay for your order at the counter before sitting, and you’re prompted to tip while still standing in line, which felt a bit awkward. The décor also seemed a little worn and could use a refresh. While the overall experience wasn’t ideal, the food alone made it worth the visit. If they ever switch to at-table ordering with actual waitstaff, I’d happily return.

I absolutely love Trails Eatery. I don’t get to stop by as often as I did when I lived near Cowell’s Mountain, but every visit is a treat. The staff is amazing, friendly, and attentive, and the food comes out fast. The croissant french toast is hands down one of my favorites — perfectly buttery, crispy, and decadent. For anyone with a serious sweet tooth, the Sin-A-Mon Swirl Pancakes are an absolute showstopper.

This spot is perfect whether you’re carbo-loading before a hike or just catching up with friends over a great meal. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and every bite keeps me coming back. Long live Trails Eatery!

We’ve been here off and on since seeing them on restaurant impossible. Have been very pleased with the service and food until today. My wife and I came in for breakfast and found they no longer wait on you at the table but you order at the counter. Lost their personal touch. Food came quickly but was not good. I got the ham steak with eggs and potatoes. The potatoes were tasteless and cold, the ham was dry and almost cold. The eggs were good as well as the biscuit. My wife ordered the San Diego omelet which was not what I would call an omelet asit was more of an egg patty (burnt eggs that is) laid on top of some sautéed vegetables. We probably won’t be back.

Overall, it has one of the better Gluten free and extensive menus available Around San Diego, would come back purely for the gluten free items as they’re top tier

The other breakfast items were about average. Seasoned well and accordingly.

I like paying ahead, and then sitting then getting your food, but it has a tipping option which I’m mixed with, I don’t like tipping before I receive such said service, but this was just a personal opinion

Food was Overall fresh and good tasting. Staff was friendly and kind, diligent.
