My sisters and I stopped by for lunch last Thursday. We had an absolutely amazing time, laughed a lot, great service and fabulous food. Mike was our server, in the black car ice cream hat and a Drake sweatshirt.

Cheese Bar is such a gem. An incredible selection of cheeses, wines, and thoughtful additions to take home. It’s the perfect cozy spot to stop in for a glass or pick up a bottle and enjoy charcuterie with friends. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, which makes the experience even better. Just very impressed all around.

Food looked great but seasoning was a bit lacking. A bit overpriced. The fig jam was quite tasty though. Service was a bit slow with us having to wait, then getting up to the counter for their attention as they seemed to have forgotten us to take our order. They were friendly enough. Atmosphere was nice with themed decor. Outdoor seating was available. Maybe worth a try but not highly recommended.

The food was absolutely amazing! We’ve had cheese boards at lots of places and usually the are just okay. Our board here was so well done. There was a great mix of soft and hard cheeses, unique meats, delicious sides and the mustard was delicious and sharp! Our grilled cheeses were full of flavor. The staff was friendly and loved explaining the different foods. We can’t wait to go back!

The Cheese Bar has become one of my favorite places to go for lunch in Des Moines. If you enjoy cheese-focused comfort food, this place is easy to love. Their grilled cheese sandwiches, mac and cheese, and cheese boards get a lot of praise from other customers, and I completely agree. My personal favorite is the Reuben Grilled Cheese with the Tomato Soup. It is incredibly flavorful and comforting, and I find myself craving it often.
The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, and it works really well for casually dressed groups or anyone who just wants to hang out and enjoy good food. People often mention how inviting the place feels, and that matches my experience every time. They also offer a big selection of drinks like wine, cider, beer and mead. I am not much of a drink person myself, but many guests seem to appreciate having those options.
One thing I agree with other reviewers on is the price. It can feel a bit expensive, especially if you order more than one item or expect large sides. For me the quality usually justifies it, but it is something to keep in mind.

The food was fantastic and the service was personable and attentive. Struggled to pick just a few items for dinner, and want to come back to try it ALL! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! Great mixes of cheeses, fresh greens, etc. The Cuban had a kind of sweet pickle that I don’t normally like, but was a perfect compliment with the ham, mustard and cheese – all encased in absolutely crunchy grilled bread. Best Cuban I’ve had since a Cuban restaurant in SoCal 30 years ago. We were too full for dessert – but then they mentioned the seasonal lemon curd tart creme brulee and we had to try it. It was all soooo good!

The food was great. There was fresh ingredients and everything was plated so beautifully! The service was awesome and our server was quick to answer any and all questions we had. We also chose to eat outside and the outside are awas 100% dog friendly and we noticed the dogs getting a little treat while their owners ate.

Our friends invited us to a group outing here and we really enjoyed the experience. We started with drinks, including a Lost in the Woods (see picture) – which my wife loved.
For dinner, we ordered a Cheese Meat Board (see picture) and the Fondue (see pictures) along with Loaded Fries (see picture) and Cheese Curds (see picture). All of them were fantastic – I can’t think of one to call out in particular, so would recommend them all! The Loaded Fries were creamy and cheesy while the Cheese Curds were rich yet light at the same time.
This is truly a tasty experience that you will want to enjoy with someone special – I recommend it.
