Very fresh and satisfying grease-free homemade food. Excellent chutneys. Naan with coconut and bananas, the tropical version. Very scrumptious Mauritian seafood curries. Overall, very flavourful and with just enough spicy kick to enjoy it. Generous portions, good value for what you get. Very friendly owner who happily explains what you are served.

We stayed in Grand Baie for a week and we’ve been to all the restaurants with the best reviews in the city and some in other locations on the island. The only one that I’ll remember and that we went back to despite its remote location was Coolen Chez Ram. It was also the least expensive option amongst them. No bells and whistles, the food is great. The Goa Fish curry was to die for. I’d highly recommend it if you are in this part of the island.

Great curry. Samosa starters were beautifully spiced. Free popadums. Dry prawn curry and coconut prawn curries were delicious. Tarka Dal was a bit thin, but tasty. Excellent value.
