Mamacita was a great experience, great Mexican food with an energetic vibe, the lady managing the store was very helpful and moved us outside on our request once space became available as we wanted to sit in the cool weather. In addition to her, there were two very efficient ladies who were managing the cleaning, setting tables and taking orders and serving as well, all extremely efficient, was a busy time for them so didn’t get to chat much with them. Everything Quesadillas, tacos were delicious and worth the visit. Glad we chose to visit. Great music and decor. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Why would I eat Mexican food in Athens, when I actually come from a place which would be considered a Mecca to Mexican Cusine-Oklahoma USA..? Well, I feel like it’s my duty while I am here to make sure that the “Mexican Food” is being if not properly, at least decently represented. I will only be able to try two and now Mamacitas is number two.
I must say, they are doing well. The look and decor is more aligned with the look that is trending in The USA with Mexican restaurants. I was glad they captured that. But now let’s get serious:
Food: I ordered the barbacoa tacos with the hopes to compare them to what I have already had couple days ago. Once again, the tacos were good but they are tex mex style. The tortilla must be corn in all tacos if you want to be authentic, and trust me, Americans LoVE Mexican food! And They know the difference too! I also had a drink, that one was good! It was the Mexican 75 I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Service: it was the average Athenian service. With a smile but also limited in conversation or interaction. But its fine. I would not want to change that. It is part of the experience.
Atmosphere: as I mentioned in my opening comments, the restaurant is beautifully decorated with a modern art touch, large bold letters. The bar was also well positioned to offer drinks. I would say that the music was at least latin music but I would consider more popular mexican. If you don’t like hardcore mexican I can understand but there is popular top 100 music that can enhance the atmosphere more towards what is hoping to represent. Imagine that I open a Greek restaurant in the USA but played Italian music. It is close but it does not represent the location I am hoping to portray with the food.
In conclusion, yes I do agree that Athens and by extension Greece is getting a solid representation of our cuisine. Thank you so much

Enjoyed our meal at Mamacita. A nice surprise in the heart of Athens. Great food and drinks. We sat outside because inside it was a little too loud for us. There were heaters available outside. The decor is really pretty inside too.

We were visiting from the US and craving Mexican food, and were pleasantly surprised to find this gem in Athens. The restaurant is beautifully designed, and has an incredible drink menu. I was sad I couldn’t try them all! The one I had, El Diablo, was excellent. The guac was also delicious, and came in very generous servings. We had the carnitas quesadilla and taco combo, which is six tacos, two each of carnitas, carne asada, and crispy chicken. My companion loved the quesadilla, but the tacos!!! They were all amazing, but I’ll be thinking and dreaming about those crispy chicken tacos long after I get home. Highly recommend this spot!

I thoroughly enjoyed the full atmosphere and vibe of the taqueria. The service was excellent and the drinks were masterfully prepared. The food was outstanding and service impeccable. Next time I’m in Greece, I will definitely go out of my way to visit again. The restaurant lifestyle is slower than the states but it allows you to digest your food and enjoy the time with others. Enjoy and live in the moment! We had the shrimp tacos and supreme nachos.

Absolutely fabulous authentic MExican
Food was incredible , great choice of vegetarian as well . Our last night so we can’t return.
All the sauces were delicious and their zorro salad was out of this world as was queso nachos.
