Definitely going downhill. Used to be my favorite for many years but now the quality of food has dropped significantly. Edamame was obviously old. Should have be thrown away and instead, they served it. Potato salad was terrible. It used to be my favorite but they must have changed recipes or it is also being served past its date. Rolls are very small and lack flavor. The expense is also through the roof for declining quality of taste and ingredients being used. Also too much styrofoam continuing to be used despite it being 2026. Sad to say that the best days are behind them.

I’ve driven past Samurai for years and decided to finally give it a shot given the reviews on Google and as much as I hate to say it I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. Samurai’s website does a really good job of portraying a nice well kept restaurant that serves beautifully crafted sushi rolls and various other Asian dishes, the reality however is that Samurai is a small hole in the wall with limited seating and looks like it could use a really good deep cleaning. Samurai’s staff was very friendly and helpful and I loved interacting with them but the food and atmosphere leave a lot to be desired. I ordered a spicy salmon Don, a Mexican roll, a deep fried Las Vegas, a catapillar roll, a plate of salmon sashimi, an order of chicken yakisoba and, some miso soups. I initially felt ok with the $112 price tag until the food arrived, I was surprised to see so many paper plates and couldn’t believe how small the rolls were or how poorly cut the sashimi was with bits of skin still on the fish; the yakisoba had no flavor and the miso soup is clearly just an instant packet. There are so many amazing sushi restaurants in Tucson that I can comfortably say you should pass on Samurai and spend your money elsewhere for a quality good tasting well presented meal.

Sadly I feel 3 stars is generous, but I have many mixed thoughts. The shrimp tempura was very good, as was the Samurai roll. However, the katsudon wasn’t very exciting. Although I was hoping to find some fresh udon noodles, I chose the pork cutlet and rice with egg I found it disappointing. It was Christmas day and I hope it will be better the my next time we try it.

I have no idea how this place has 4.5 stars.
We had a Ramen Bowl and a Don Bowl. Both were lacking in ingredients. I ordered a vegetarian bowl because I love veggies and added chicken. My expectation was a nice bowl of veggies and some chicken .
The 2 or 3 bites of chicken were like jerky and veggies (the few)….well they were unrecognizable.
Ramen bowl, had one small piece of chatsu (pork), noodles and we had to pay $3 extra for an egg.
Honestly, probably the worst meal we have ever had.
Reviews are super-SUPER-misleading.
When we visit Tucson we almost always go to Rajin Ramen, they always uphold their 4.6 stars….always.
We just didn’t want to backtrack….next time we will.

My good friend brought me to this place about 10 years ago, he travels east asia a lot and told me that this is probably one of the best, authentic Japanese street food restaurants in Tucson.
10 years later i still stop by as often as i can for my Dbl Chicken Yakisoba plate, and Gyoza.
Love this place ❤️

This very unassuming Japanese restaurant is not fancy. It’s a bit quirky on the inside and tight booth style seating. There’s a full menu on the wall for you to look at as well as pictures of multiple dishes so you get an idea of what you might be getting if you’re unfamiliar with that Japanese food you may want. The woman that took our order was very friendly and helpful. The kitchen looks pretty small but again the restaurant space is pretty small as well.

We ordered Tan Tan ramen, spicy tuna-don volcano style, a California roll, and gyoza. The Tan Tan ramen was pretty good, better than I expected it would be, as it’s hard to find this ramen in Tucson that comes anywhere close to the flavor in Japan. The spicy tuna-don volcano style was pretty good as well according to my wife as was the California roll. I think the gyoza was not as good as it could have been but was okay.

As far as the location goes, if you’re not using some type of a map you may have a hard time finding it as it’s tucked away in the back of a strip mall that is mostly out of business and right next to a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu place. There’s plenty of parking since most of the strip mall it’s located in is empty.

Me and a friend went and we both liked it, the portions are good and the staff are pretty nice, but I do recommend they give the place a makeover and put more decorations up to brighten up the place

Soo good. Found this place via Google cause of the great reviews. Living in Hawaii and going to Japan we are a but picky on food. So this place lived up to its good reviews. We loved it. Will be back for sure. The sukiyaki was so good we ordered one to go too. .

Unagi don was good. I’ve also had their tonkotsu ramen which is also good

They could use a remodel but the place still feels clean so it really doesnt matter

The folks running the place are nice too!

Definitely a great place to get lunch or a quick dinner
