Draes Lake Route Eatery: Experience Soulful Southern Comfort …
Reviews
A surprise visit from my lovely sister led me to one of the best-kept secrets in the city — a Black-owned soul food spot that lifted my spirits and wrapped me in Southern comfort.
From the moment you walk in, the vibe is pure home — culture, community, and comfort all in one. Whether you roll in with your crew, solo for self-care, or on wheels — yes, it’s fully wheelchair-accessible, with clean restrooms and space to move freely — this place welcomes everyone.
Menu Magic: All-day breakfast meets Southern goodness — think wings, fish, waffles, shrimp & grits, and the VIP Loaded Bro Bowl with your choice of meats, eggs, and veggies. (Trust me, it’s a game changer.)
Drinks: Light cocktails and that famous Pineapple Mimosa — topped with bubbles that turn your day into sunshine. ☀️
Vibe Check: Arcade games, game-day TVs, cozy seating, and music that makes you dance in your seat. No kids? No problem — it’s got grown & grounded energy with something for every mood.
Nestled near Lake Washington, just off the #7 bus line (close to Renton), this hidden gem deserves all the love.
Shoutout to Shell & Drake, the owners serving the community with authentic Southern-style love and BIPOC excellence.
If you love comfort food with culture, accessibility, and heart — this is your next stop.

Service was very nice.
The waffle I got was delicious, thin and crispy. I liked how they separated the proteins from the waffle so the sweet and savory didn’t mix. I did think it wasn’t very much food, as I was quite hungry, but prices were good. I would like to come back and try the loaded grits or the sandwiches!
The tables were a little sticky though.
The lady who was working the counter (who maybe also owns the place?) was the sweetest nicest person and was hustling to get everybody’s food out. It was super busy when we went on a Saturday – but the food still came out hot and fresh.
The fried chicken was so crispy and they had the thin waffles which actually prefer. Also the cinnamon roll was banging.
The chicken tenders on my sandwich had no right to be that thick and juicy. Like soooo good!!!
Pros: outstanding service, excellent food – I saw a lot of people with tenders or chicken and waffles so definitely come here for the chicken! (Although my friend said that the gravy hit the spot too)
Cons: nothing much except that it was busy and I felt like they could have used one more helper at the counter. I don’t mind waiting for good food, but if you are in a hurry I wouldn’t go on a Saturday.
(But Saturdays are when they have the cinnamon roll so maybe you should come and get that)
