Today I hit Casella’s Italian Delicatessen in Scottsdale, and let me tell you straight: as a native New Yorker who grew up on the best delis from the Bronx to Brooklyn, this might legitimately be the single best sandwich of my entire life.
That Italian hoagie—layers of perfect salami, capicola, provolone, crisp lettuce, tomatoes, onions, the house oil and vinegar hitting every note—was pure nostalgia and elevation at once. The bread had that ideal chew, the meats were sliced just right, and the balance was flawless. Paired with their creamy, chunky chicken salad on the side? Unreal.
The place feels like family—warm, no pretense, Cardinals pride on the walls, awards earned the hard way.
Denise and the crew have that old-school heart you can feel. Five stars doesn’t even cover it.
Happy birthday again to Denis! I hope your day’s as special as that sandwich made mine. If you’re anywhere near Scottsdale, stop what you’re doing and go.
You won’t regret it.

Lunch Club decided to try something different. I’ve not heard of Casella’s previously, but I will not forget it now! Wow! The flavors! The aroma in the eatery! The tastes! Everything is made AFTER you order. Your sub isn’t some meat sitting in a tray all sliced up. It’s very, very fresh and very well worth the wait! The patrons who are regulars, are treated by name and swap stories with the owners. The fresh faces are made to feel welcome… invited… and appreciated. The pricing might be a bit more than your average sub shop… but Casella’s is NOT your ordinary sub shop. And, in this reviewers opinion, a spot to make sure becomes a habit… a favorite. Everything in the food photo cost less than $20.

Get the Philly cheesesteak with the works, you won’t be disappointed! I got the sauce on the side, and it was perfect for dipping my sandwich into. The bread was soft and chewy, and the meat was so flavorful. They only accept cash so keep that in mind and plan ahead!

My family has been going there since they opened. Joe and his family ran it and all food is handmade. It was the place for Saguaro High Student to go for lunch until the school closed the campus. Casellas a Scottsdale Icon! When Papa Joe went to Heven the Fire Department gave him a full salute. His beautiful Daughter Denise and her husband own the store and carry on the recipes. The decor is original and has a home atmosphere.

I needed a late lunch before my son’s wrestling match at Saguaro High School. I saw the McDonalds on the corner and thought meh. Drove down the way a little spot this gem. I didn’t know what to expect because I’m not familiar with this side of town. Upon walking in I was instantly greeted and was asked what I was looking for. The gentleman recommended the chicken salad sandwich and healthy salad. I got both of those and a tiny serving a pasta and salad and unsweetened tea. The food was outstanding!!! Super fresh and tasted homemade. I would drive all the way from the west side just to eat here again for lunch. Highly recommend but bring cash because I don’t think they accept cards. 100/10!

Food was good and the people were great – but – I have to give four instead of five stars. They don’t use gloves when they prepare the food, and they also don’t wash their hands in between taking cash from customers and going back to making food. They are cash only – so they are handling a LOT of money – and then going right back to handling food. You would think this was common sense, but it was a little disheartening to watch.

Absolutely incredible experience! I did go when Larry Fitzgerald covered everyone’s meal The staff was amazing and enthusiastic, Not to mention how energetic and happy Joe was Even the people in line were great. I got there early but they were still running out of the stuff that people recommended (chicken salad sandwich, desserts, and well almost everything I asked for lol) I love the staff I asked a lady to surprise me especially because I am new. She did and WOWZA the meatball is awesome which btw I’m not a fan of meatball. I can’t wait to go back to try so many things
