Tucked inside Pandan Valley Condo, The French Ladle is one of those rare places that immediately makes you feel at home. The moment you step in, the cosy, intimate atmosphere sets the tone — warm lighting, friendly staff, and a charming, homely French bistro vibe that makes you want to linger just a little longer.

The food is absolutely comforting in the best way possible. Portions are generous and hearty, the kind that truly reflects the spirit of rustic French cooking. The salmon dish was beautifully done — tender, perfectly seasoned, and served over a colourful mix of roasted vegetables and tomatoes that soaked up all the lovely flavours. The duck confit was equally impressive: crispy skin, fall-off-the-bone meat, and plated over a bed of soft vegetables and golden jus that tied everything together. Even the simple bread basket felt thoughtful and freshly prepared.

What stands out most is how sincere and unpretentious the food feels. Every plate comes across like it was prepared with genuine care, and every bite is satisfying without being overly heavy. It’s the kind of place that reminds you why French comfort food is so beloved.

Whether you’re here for a relaxed family meal or a quiet dinner for two, The French Ladle is a cosy, heart-warming spot that consistently delivers delicious, comforting French cuisine. A wonderful little treasure in the neighbourhood — we’ll definitely be back.

It’s hard to find a neighborhood resident French restaurant what more in a nearly 50 year old elegant Ulu Pandan condominium.

The menu rotates on what’s available and this round it’s a choice of NZ Hoki (a white fish) or Waghyu steak.

The mushroom soup with truffle oil is an excellent starter. I didn’t fancy the escargot as much but the waghyu tri-tip steak is excellent. Rounding it up was a warm chocolate berry topped cake.

Highly recommended.

This review is long overdue. My friends and I have been visiting The French Ladle at Pandan Valley for a while now, and it has consistently been one of our favourite spots for a reason. This place is a true gem, serving up incredibly delicious, authentic French food in a cosy, unpretentious setting, with service that is always warm and wonderful.

Our most recent dinner was, as usual, a perfect 10/10. We started with the complimentary bread and butter, which was simple, fresh, and delicious. It was the perfect opener for what was to come.

Every single one of us (a table of six!) ordered the French Onion Soup ($18 each), which is a testament to how good it is. It’s a non-negotiable must-order every time we visit. The soup is rich, deeply savoury, and topped with that perfect, bubbling crust of melted cheese.

For our mains, the table was a showcase of their best dishes:
Three of my friends had the classic Duck Leg Confit ($38). It was, as always, executed perfectly—the skin was beautifully crisp, and the meat was fall-off-the-bone tender.
Two of my friends opted for the special of the day, the Hoki ($38). The fish was cooked beautifully, with flaky, moist flesh and crispy skin, served over a bed of fresh vegetables.

I decided to have the Pan-seared Foie Gras ($28) as my main, and it was pure indulgence. A generous, thick-cut portion, perfectly seared on the outside, creamy and decadent on the inside.

We also shared a basket of Truffle Fries ($14), which were crispy, fragrant, and a perfect side for the table.

The French Ladle never fails to deliver a 5-star experience. It’s a place you can always count on for fantastic, hearty French food, friendly service, and a wonderful, cosy meal. We will, of course, be back again and again. Highly, highly recommended!

Quaint French outfit in an old condo.

Interior was small and it can feel a bit claustrophobic. Furniture seemed old and rickety as well, but you could say they have true French character.

Food was great, no complaints there. Free bread basket was generous.

1. Beef cheek was rich and fatty, with a luxuriant red wine sauce.

2. Duck confit was cooked perfectly, with crispy skin and fall-off-the-bone meat. The veg stew that it came in was nothing to write home about though.

3. Pork tenderloin was the black horse – tender and juicy with little porkiness.

Serving sizes could be larger for the price, but I’m greedy.

Got the apple pie and lemon tart for dessert. They were okay, not bad.

Always a lovely and reliable place to have good decent French food. The duck confit is still the best I have tried thus far, and the service is warm and hospitable.

Sunday lunch. All 3 starters we had were good – pharma ham with salad, soup of the day (potato and leek) and liver pate.

Mains : ravioli, duck spaghetti, chicken and fish of the day. All nicely done.

Finished the meal off with lemon tart, very refreshing!

have waited too long to visit!

a really cute homely french restaurant in an old condo development. i simply love the vibes!

the food was also fantastic. french food tends to be pretty heavy on the palate, but here the flavours were light and clean while still retaining the authentic taste. i absolutely loved it. highly recommend the beef cheek, duck confit and foie gras. escargots came deshelled.

will be back!

The French Ladle is a small and cozy restaurant with limited seating. Friday nights can be quite busy, so reservations are recommended. There is only one waiter which means service can be slow, but the staff remains friendly and attentive. The food is good, making the wait worthwhile. An added bonus—there is no GST imposed. It’s a nice spot for a casual French dining experience if you don’t mind a slower pace.
