Casual, contemporary eatery specializing in a wide array of traditional Northeast Chinese cuisine.

We went as a group of two and ordered four main dishes.
We were also interested in trying Malatang, so we looked at the ingredients, but unfortunately, they were not in good condition. They were not very fresh, clean, or diverse.
Because of that, even after picking some ingredients, it didn’t reach 1 lb.
One of the staff members told us that they would not sell it unless it reached 1 lb, and she seemed annoyed while saying it, which made us uncomfortable.
If the ingredients had been fresher and more diverse, we would have ordered more, even though we had already ordered a lot of food. Unfortunately, we decided not to get Malatang because of this.
I believe this situation could have been handled more flexibly, so it was disappointing. The attitude of that staff member (a short-haired lady at the counter) felt rude. Most of the other staff were very kind.
Overall, the food and service were still excellent, and we enjoyed our visit.

Best Chinese food in St Louis I’ve ever had. Hands down. Every entre looked so delicious. We shared two entries—General Tso’s Chicken and Pepper Beef. Very generous serving size with enough leftovers to have another entire meal—and we ate a LOT!
Can’t wait to return!!

When it comes to Chinese food on Delmar, there’s no shortage of options, each with its own specialties. Cafe Zone has become one of my go-to spots, thanks to the welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and authentic flavors. On our last visit, we tried the brisket noodle soup and the black pepper beef. The noodle soup came with plenty of noodles, though I’ll admit other places in the area make them a little better. But the black pepper beef? Absolutely outstanding. Tender, perfectly seasoned, and bursting with flavor. It’s the dish I’d highly recommend ordering here.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in St Louis. I prefer the Chesterfield location than this one. This location is smaller and crowded. We had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. You can’t go wrong with anything you order so feel free to try new entrees.
Food comes out really fast, which makes up the wait time.
Btw, if have to wait outside… be sure to bring bug repellent. Lots of mosquitoes outside.

I was introduced to Cate Zone quinine during the pandemic (so take-away). It was my first time having the ‘hot crispy fish’ and I now dream about that fish. (To put that into perspective, i rarely choose fish, or have cravings for it.)
I have since invited friends for dining in pick-up orders. Yes, the inside is small and the prices have jumped. For me though, this restaurant is worth returning to. I prepare in advance if i need to wait. I am glad to see so many people ordering.
I don’t order often because of the rising prices, but it just makes it a treat now when i can go.

Queue time: 20 minutes. You need to open the door yourself and register your name and phone number on the machine to queue. There’s nothing around to kill time.
Serving time: The serving time is extremely long. You keep seeing many takeout orders being packed. And guests who sat down later than me have already had four dishes served. My dishes still haven’t made any progress.
Food quality: Poor. The price doesn’t match the quality. If the quality were good, I would be willing to wait a little longer. In fact, the chicken and potatoes have very little flavor, or to say, the whole dish doesn’t have a prominent taste. Every bite of eggplant makes the batter-made crispy crust get stuck in my teeth.
A very disappointing meal. Too many unreal info on social media!

The skewers are their new dishes. Tastes so good. The spicy boiled chili oil fish is their recommended dish. Even it is oiled it tastes soft and not too spicy. I like the fried sweet potato very crispy. Overall good. It seems popular cuz it has limited space. I waited 30mins to sit. Expected during weekend dinner time. The server is very nice.

After listening to the food critics talk about it on the Arch Eats podcast, I could not wait to go to Cate Zone for Chinese. I was not disappointed. My friend and I went for lunch and the service was great, the food was outstanding and it was a very enjoyable meal with plenty for leftovers.
I plan to go back soon after 5:00 so that I can try the lamb skewers. They looked fabulous on the menu.

I’ve been here around ten times and the experience has been the same every time – stellar. The hot crisp fish is, without a doubt, one of the best dishes in Saint Louis. The service is fantastic, as if you’ve walked into your grandmother’s house and you’re sitting in her dining room.
This is a top five restaurant in a city with an incredible food scene. Run, dont walk. Get there when they open so you dont have to deal with a wait.

Upon first glance at the restaurant store front, one may assume Cate Zone to be a simple dime a dozen Chinese takeout, however don’t be fooled. Upon entry, one will be greeted by friendly and attentive staff and see a slew of patrons enjoying traditional cuisine in a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The quality of the food is fantastic and the spice and seasonings of the provided dishes are consistent, and really showcase the cuisinier here care about the culinary tastes of their dishes. Perfect for a lunch date or small dinner with the family. Plan for a wait during peak hours due to patron volumes, however the food and experience are truly worth a wait.
