In sum, food was alright but service and management needs serious reform.
The fish is fresh, and that is apparent in the sashimi. However, it was difficult to enjoy due to the atmosphere of the restaurant and service. I really wanted to like this place, but it had few redeeming qualities.
The server did not speak to our table or take our order until 20+ minutes after we sat down. It took 43 minutes from when we ordered to get our first dish and entrees arrived before appetizers. It took over an hour for the overly-dressed, mediocre rolls to arrive. The salmon handroll was shockingly bitter and took away from the fresh fish flavor. The tiraditos that lacked in any flavor arrived late into the meal, and drinks were forgotten or arrived late. It seems there was constant miscommunication between FOH and the kitchen. On top of all that, the atmosphere was so loud, it made it difficult to hear the person next to you speak, ruining any ability to enjoy the company you are dining with. I wish we had a better experience here, but sadly we will not be returning to this establishment.

Hands down one of the best and most unique sushi I ever experienced. The Peruvian influence is clear and it works well. The service was pleasant and attentive and the vibe was lively but not overly loud.
I recommend you order the sampler so you get to taste a little bit of everything. The outstanding one for me was the Parmesan Scallops but everything else was fantastic including the classics like unagi.

Have been here twice and the sushi and fish is amazing. I Have not had one item on the menu I did not love. Have come in late and was seated with out question. They have really good customer service. A waitress ordered us last min food after they had stopped serving bc she overheard we were hungry still lol. It’s really clean too. Will be back again and again.

6 and 8 piece tasting menu which features their all stars
Scallops
Hamachi Tostada
Dusty Roll
I docked a star for atmosphere because they kept the door open and it was so cold! Otherwise, everything else was perfection! ✨

We love the other location, and the quality of the fish at both locations is consistently great.
The primary disappointment on this trip was the tuna tacos. They are historically perfect and made beautifully fresh to order (in particular the crispy shells that melt in your moth).
These tacos were obviously prepared hours before serving, the quality of the chopped tuna was mediocre at best and the shells were almost soggy instead of crispy perfection. I wish I’d taken a picture, because even looking at them you know it would be a subpar experience.
The rest of the meal was great.

Dined in here on a Friday night with a reservation and was seated right away. All of the food we tried tasted amazing but what stood out was the yellowtail sashimi. It was absolutely delicious, fresh, and so flavorful. The shrimp tacos were really good and I loved how crispy they were. Their spicy edamame was probably one of the best I’ve had. The sake we had was very smooth. Our server was attentive. The prices are reasonable. I would definitely return.

This is an incredible sushi experience. Peruvian sushi is unique and stands out from the countless traditional high end Japanese sushi bars in LA. The ceviche, grilled scallops and seared fish sushi are some of the very memorable dishes Nikkei has to offer. This is a go-to for special occasions and by far the best sushi in Long Beach!

Overall, ok but underwhelming and unorganized. Although the server was kind, they asked us several times if we were still waiting for some dishes. The restaurant only had 3 other parties dining. At one point they took our chopsticks, soy sauce, ginger/wasabi away when we still had 2 more dishes coming. They served us the check twice after we had already paid which turned out to be the check for another table. Food quality was decent but not flavorful. We waited a while for each dish to come out. The fatty fish in the bluefin tasting was very chewy and hard to eat. We will not be going back. There are much better sushi spots on 2nd.

A fresh (to me) take on sushi that adds Peruvian flavors and spices. It’s really good! We tried hamachi tostadas, tuna tacos, tuna power, Asian shiromi, and the Oba roll. Everything came out beautifully crafted. I enjoyed unexpected flavors like oregano (I think!) and others. The atmosphere is upscale; we spent about $50/person (plus the tip). I would say the quality of the food supports the prices! Two things to note: something like 8 of 11 rolls on the menu have shellfish (and one of the remaining three is veggie), so if you have a shellfish allergy like me be prepared for limited options. I was also surprised they didn’t offer more beverage variety like chicha mirada (the one non-US non-alcoholic drink was Inka cola). All in all, though, this is a fantastic restaurant and a great spot for a date night.

Love this little gem of Peruvian sushi. The grilled scallops are not to be missed and their ceviche peruano the best in town.
You can’t go bad with anything from the menu.
I’d highly recommend it.
