Our server Trey was friendly, prompt and full of stories.
I enjoyed walking around the establishment to look at some of the interesting art, and displays they had.
The manager came over to greet us, she was a lovely woman.
Great place! Go Hungry
After the entrée the staff came over and sang a robust version of happy birthday in which the customers also joined in. There a very large group having a meal as well as smaller tables like ours. We came late and stayed until closing and had the opportunity to take some photos of the restaurant, including the pope’s table. Didn’t have a chance to return again but would’ve loved to come back for lunch and try their new papardella bolognese. Service was attentive and the food came out in 10 minutes. Amazing.
The menu and portions designed for 3-4 people or larger portions 5-6 people. The price may seem a little daunting at first but the portions are huge.
I ordered the baked rigatoni 42$ regular portion and an Apple Gorganzola salad 30$. Was more than enough for 2 people with plenty of leftovers.
Lots of cheese on the rigatoni, cooked well, plenty of sauce, lots of flavor. The salad was in. A big bowl, a shown in the photo with tongs practically fitting inside the bowl. Lots of flavor all the way through, the toppings were throughout the salad not just layered on top.
In the past year or so, I have eaten at Buca four times with the same experience: good food, poor service.
Buca is conveniently located next to the Excalibur showroom. This week we arrived at Buca one hour before show time and told the waiter. The restaurant was moderately busy and the waiter said, ‘no problem.’ The food was served quickly — one entree of fettuccine Alfredo and dessert. The one entree was enough for four people.
The waiter checked on us only once, no problem. But with 20 minutes to curtain time, I had to ask for dessert, (which was enough for at least five people) we hurriedly ate a bit. Then the waiter went missing. I had to walk into the kitchen to hunt down the waiter to ask for the bill and take-home boxes — too small for the leftover tiramisu.
With the showroom about 75 feet away, we made it to our seats just two minutes before the start of the show. Each visit to Buca is similar: good food, excessively large portions and poor service.
