And the Singapore noodles is one of my favorite dishes all around. We also love the crispy chicken and the Akina fried rice.
Servers have always been super nice and friendly and we tell everyone we know to try this place out
Our evening dinner started off with superb authentic green tea in a cast iron tea pot, next was appetizer; the Crispy Calamari which does have a heat factor in the fried sweet potato bedding consisting of fried Thai chili slices and scallion slices. The sweet and spicy dipping sauce was the wow factor. It tasted like a sweet cocktail sauce with heat yet wasn’t a cocktail sauce. Our menu continues into General Tso chicken, it does have a heat factor but not overly powerful if you’re mindful of not eating the cooked chilis in the dish. The General Tso’s chicken was tender, juicy and plentiful on the plate with a cup of white rice and small ‘salad’ for palate cleansing. We added the large chicken fried rice and it was amazing. Flavorful with diced onion, red bell pepper, green onion plus the egg. The chicken fried rice needed no sauce of any kind. Lastly we had the Yaka Soba noodles with chicken. Yaka Soba is one of my favourite noodles next to Udon and I have to say out of all the places I’ve eaten away from Okinawa or Japan. Akina has got the noodles down like they’re from Japan. I was full after a few bites and leftovers never looked so good. The staff, was personable and Skylar was spot on, friendly in every way. You could tell she enjoys her job. We didn’t lack for anything. I would give more stars if I could but definitely 5/5
I like the ambiance and seating is comfortable.
The server was attentive and helpful.
I’ve been here a billion times at this point and have a few favorites: roti prata is an absolute must – a unique flaky flatbread from Malaysia that you can dip in a wonderful curry sauce. Definitely get this!! The spicy edamame is also a great option, gyoza is always solid, summer rolls are some of the best I’ve ever had, tuna and salmon tataki are also both some of the best I’ve had, and fried appetizers like the calamari and panko crusted shrimp are really good too. If I were to choose three right now, I’d get the roti prata, either tuna or salmon tataki, and summer rolls!
Regarding sushi, here are my favorite rolls: godzilla, hanabi special, heaven, kamikaze, king dragon, Louisiana, Seattle, and temptation! Special nod to the hanabi special, heaven, and temptation – these are the rolls that keep bringing me back!! They are absolutely incredible and on par with the best sushi I’ve had anywhere around the world…and I’ve been to Japan, London, Dubai, and other places that have exceptional sushi as well!!
If you want a massive roll that’s essentially the size of two, get the king dragon – don’t be frightened with its price. Lobster is expensive and it’s a MASSIVE roll – you only need that and an appetizer and you’d have a great meal. However, please do yourself a favor and try the three I mentioned earlier IF you like unique and different sushi rolls. If you’re a fan of the simple stuff like California, Philadelphia and volcano rolls, sure, get those instead. But, if you’re wanting something different, you’ll love the hanabi special, heaven, and temptation rolls. The only things I haven’t tried from Akina yet are the regular dinner entrees (steak, chicken, and Japanese/Chinese/Thai dishes), but based off other reviews, they seem great as well.
This is just an awesome restaurant and you need to try it ASAP if you’re on the fence. You won’t be disappointed!
