The staff is friendly and gave their suggestions on what we should order since it was our first time here.
The fried shrimp loaded baked potatoes was delicious and very filling after eating this meal you are going to pack on a few pounds. My friend ordered the pulled pork with two sides. The Mac and cheese side tasted pretty good. Definitely coming back here to check out a few of the other menu items.
Cou-Yon’s BBQ Restaurant in Port Allen, Louisiana, is a culinary gem that offers an exceptional dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a symphony of enticing aromas and the warm smiles of the owners and staff, creating an inviting atmosphere that feels just like home.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the moist brisket, a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to quality and flavor. Each bite is a burst of savory goodness, showcasing the skill and passion that goes into every dish. The loaded baked potato is another standout, with its delightful combination of cold toppings and tender brisket, delivering a harmonious blend of textures and tastes that will leave you in awe.
Cou-Yon’s BBQ is more than just a restaurant; it’s a place where food is made with love, and every dish reflects that dedication. With a well-deserved 5-star rating and the stamp of approval from Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, this establishment is a must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable BBQ experience.
If you see Ms. Loris working, order extra because she’s amazing. Cou-yon’s has a family friendly atmosphere, welcoming and open to everyone.
Now, what about the food? That’s what everyone really wants to know. Here’s what we ate and how we rated it:
1. Appetizer:
Fried Fish Bites with Remoulade Sauce $9.99
9/10 (Fish was seasoned well, I just like mine a little crispier)
2. Specialty Plates:
Cou-Cou Waffle Fries with Pulled Pork $14.99
Queso, Bacon, Sour Cream, Purple Onions, Jalapeños, Chives, Sweet BBQ sauce
10/10 (You can’t go wrong with loaded crispy waffle fries… and the pulled pork was tender)
3. Two Meat Plate (Spare ribs & Brisket) $14.99
BBQ 10/10 (tender, juicy, falling off the bone ribs)
The BBQ was good without the sauce, but GREAT with the sweet BBQ sauce. I’d eat the sauce by itself.
The Two Meat Plate comes with Two 4oz Sides,
Texas Toast, BBQ Sauce, Pickles & Onions.
I decided to rate the sides separately from the meat.
– Loaded potato casserole: 2/10
The flavors did not merry well, and it was under seasoned.
– Baked beans: 7/10
They were good, but not great. But baked beans always pair well with BBQ.
4. Kids Seafood Plate: $9.99
Shrimp (10), One 4oz Side, Hushpuppy & Drink
My son gave it 10/10. He loved the Cajun rice dressing (and he’s picky sometimes), the shrimp was seasoned and fried well (I traded a waffle fry for 1 shrimp), and he said the hushpuppy was deeeelicious.
Thanks for lunch Cou-yon’s, see ya’ll soon!
Cou-yon’s Cajun Bar-B-Q – Port Allen, LA
Whew baby this place was an experience! The line was out the door (always a good sign ), and the smell alone had my mouth waterin’. I got me a LOADED baked potato piled high with crawfish, fried shrimp, cheese, and all the fixins’ — it was Southern heaven in a spud!
Now listen… the étouffée wasn’t quite hittin’ like I hoped, and the shrimp weren’t deveined but that’s dirty South food for ya — muddy, messy, and full of flavor. My friend had the BBQ and said it was good, not life-changing, but still worth the stop.
If you want some real down-home, finger-lickin’ Cajun grub, this is it. Come hungry, bring patience for that line, and don’t expect fancy — just pure Louisiana soul food done the Cou-yon way!
