What a delicious experience! Our server was so welcoming and even taught us some Aramaic phrases for us to exchange. We ordered the diabulbule meatballs from the appetizers, and then #23 that came with 4 varieties of stews to eat with the ingeera which were all seasoned and cooked amazingly.

There were 3 of us friends who split the food, where our server was helpful to make sure we knew that the serving size was intended for one person. The portion worked well to tide us between lunch and dinner.

We concluded our meal with ceremonial coffee that comes with incense, spiced coffee, and popcorn (that surprisingly goes so well with the coffee). The coffee was smooth and can be enjoyed black or with the white sugar provided. I’m not usually a black coffee drinker, but it was delicious here!

Decor is a mix of some Ethiopian art and some print art throughout, with some rustic details with the bar with lights. I would love to see them lean more into authentic Ethiopian art and aesthetics. Either way, lovely experience.

Had dinner for the first time at Habesha. We were so excited to try as new folks from out of town….We were pleasantly greeted right away by the owner when we walked in. Mango juice was excellent. We were disappointed that the fried fish was not on the menu, but lots of other options for Pesceterians We tried lentil samosas and they were pretty good. Veggie platter was just ok – cabbage was tasty, lentils and greens were a bit salty, potatoes were good. Injera was nice and fresh. Servers were very nice and busy as it was on a saturday night. We took icecream and baklava to go for the kids. Restaurant has a nice relaxed vibe, a nice bar in the side with a large TV. Ethiopian music was a nice touch and we enjoyed the vibe.

My first time having Ethiopian food and it was INCREDIBLE!! Delicious food where there’s something for everyone, and such a communal experience for conversation. It is family owned and Solomon was so kind and enthusiastic to share his wife’s cooking with us. I could not recommend this place enough, please go here!

Truly amazing experience! Best Ethiopian food in New Haven CT. All food is delicious but I recommend ordering Doro Wot, Shekla Tibis and the Special Beyaynetu. Don’t forget the coffee ceremony (you must try). They have the best service!!

Well worth your time! We grabbed lunch and had the doro wot and kay wot. The owner greeted us and generously explained all the options. He gave excellent recommendations and the food was absolutely fantastic. The place has a great ambiance – combination of brick and wood walls. Very welcoming atmosphere. They recently celebrated their 1-year anniversary. This place is a gem in New Haven. As we were leaving the owner brought us some genuine Ethiopian coffee. Incredibly aromatic and full of great flavors. Try this place for a authentic Ethiopian food experience. Very friendly staff. 10 out of 10 would recommend!

Exceptional Food and Hospitality
———————————————————

My partner and I have been enjoying Ethiopian food throughout our 12 years together, from Houston to DC to NYC. After years of having access to some of the best in Harlem, we truly missed it after moving upstate, where Ethiopian cuisine is scarce within 75 miles.

Today we decided to make the drive. After debating a trip back to our old Harlem favorite, we chose Habesha Ethiopian Restaurant in New Haven, CT. What a fantastic decision that was.

We arrived a little after 9:00 on a Saturday evening and were warmly greeted by Solomon, who we later learned is the owner. His kindness and hospitality set the tone for the evening. He even brought our 8-year-old a sample of a mango drink and offered us tastings of Ethiopian honey wine, which was lovely.

We ordered the Beef Tibise and Special Kitfo (tartare), and both were spectacular. The kitfo, in particular, was probably the best I have ever had. It was tender, perfectly seasoned, and complemented by fresh, rich cheese. The flavors were complex yet beautifully balanced, and the vegetarian sides were equally delicious.

The service here is truly something special, reminiscent of old-world hospitality. Solomon and his family go above and beyond to make guests feel appreciated and welcomed. It is clear they take deep pride in what they do.

Thank you for a delicious meal and your family’s hospitality. We will be back!

This family-run business is such a great spot for a date or food-sharing among friends. As someone with multiple food intolerances, it’s hard to find places that can support me. Great spot for vegans and those needing gluten-free options!

Hand to God, easily the best Ethiopian in the state!!! Everything was amazing, do a sampler to try everything, it’s the best way to do it. The cocktails are also phenomenal. On top of it all, the staff are incredibly warm and welcoming. If I could rate higher I would!!!

We this Ethiopian place for lunch. The owner was incredibly gracious and gave us recommendations since it was our first time trying Ethiopian food. The waiter also showed us how to eat the dishes the traditional way, which we appreciated.

The food was absolutely delicious! My only comment is on the service, the waiter wasn’t very attentive, and we had to call him a few times for water and for the bill.
