Reviews
The staff was extremely professional from start to finish. Stacie (hostess) graciously accommodated us nearly an hour before our reservation, which we truly appreciated. We were also indecisive about sitting inside versus outside and bounced between the two — yet she remained patient, courteous, and accommodating the entire time.
Her professionalism and composure did not waver. Truly top-tier hospitality.
Jesse, our server, was equally impressive — knowledgeable, attentive, and polished. He answered our questions thoroughly and made excellent recommendations. The food was outstanding and beautifully prepared.
Yes, it is on the pricier side, but absolutely worth it for the quality, service, and overall experience.
We’re looking forward to returning and will definitely be recommending JOEY to friends and family.
Food/drink review:
Strawberry cool (w/gin): (4/5) This was super refreshing and delicious! It’s a zero proof drink, but I added gin.
Japanese gyoza: (5/5) These were so tasty! Great texture and flavor. The sauce it comes with is bomb!
Lobster spaghetti: (5/5) I’m allergic so didn’t personally try it but my 2 friends said it was delicious and they finished it all! Good sharing portion.
Steak and sushi: (5/5) Yumm! Literally two of my favorite foods in one dish. Great combo. I loved it.
Udon carbonara noodles (w/ chicken): (5/5) Surprisingly delicious! The chicken was a great touch to the dish.
The bar service was slow and inconsistent from the start. It took about 20 minutes for the bartender to circle back, and the drinks that finally arrived were surprisingly underwhelming. Not terrible enough to send back, but definitely not what you expect from a spot known for its bar program.
The bigger disappointment was the crispy tofu bowl. I’ve ordered it many times and it’s usually solid. This time it showed up with exactly six very small pieces of tofu and no avocado, which I had specifically requested. It looked less like a bowl and more like a garnish situation.
When the bartender eventually returned, I explained the issue. She took the plate away and disappeared for a while. When she came back, the “manager’s solution” was to cook a side of tofu and bring it out separately. By that point the whole experience felt disjointed and oddly handled. There was no real ownership of the problem, just a patch job after the fact.
What stood out most was the lack of coordination and attention from both staff and management. Service felt scattered, quality felt inconsistent, and the overall experience was nowhere near the standard this location used to maintain.
I’ve genuinely enjoyed this place in the past, which makes the decline more noticeable. Between the slow bar service, weak drinks, and a signature dish that came up short, this visit missed the mark.
I’m hoping this is a temporary slide because the location and concept are great. For now though, I’ll probably take a break and give them some time to get things back on track.
Ok, I admittedly love good food so when my Uncle opted on a chain like Joey’s, I kept my expectations low. In my days of mall food, I hadn’t been blown away by the options.
Wow, I have to admit when I am wrong and I was definitely wrong to come in with low expectations. Joey’s delivered. Joey’s delivered on flavors, style and great service. By the time we came in, we were greeted with sparking wine or water and seated at our booth a few minutes upon arriving. It was a Monday and the restaurant was packed for dinner.
The ambience was dark, sexy and friendly. Still appropriate for a family dinner like the one we were having but also could be a great date night spot.
For the table we shared the delicious Szechuan Chicken Lettuce Wraps. Excellent flavor and a more elegant cousin of typical Chinese Chicken Lettuce wrap.
For my entree, I tried the steak and sushi. I really enjoyed the flavor of the seared salmon sushi. I tried the Tuna sushi and that was mediocre to me. The seared salmon sushi is definitely something I would order again. I had a side of miso mushrooms and they were excellent. The mushrooms are another must order dish when I return.
Finally, we had the butter cake and we were all blown away by how delicious it was.
The biggest reason I will be coming back is the service, Sydney was our server and she went above and beyond to make my first time experience so memorable. You may be wondering how I knew what to order for the first time and it was thanks to Sydney’s excellent recommendations. She has great taste. If you are lucky enough to be seated in her section, you will enjoy great service and a great meal.
This was a special treat for our family near and far to get together and Joey’s was an excellent choice. Also, for any visitors, this location has FREE PARKING and is about 15 mins to LAX.
My server, Miranda, provided excellent recommendations, addressed all inquiries thoroughly, and demonstrated attentive service, including inquiring about potential allergies.
I selected the hummus, Philly cheesesteak sliders, and blackened chicken, complemented by the Joey 75 beverage. The culinary offerings were exquisite, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. Each dish was expertly paired, enhancing the overall experience.
I was thoroughly satisfied with my spontaneous decision to dine here. I anticipate returning to Joeys on every future visit to Manhattan Beach.
