Had dinner with family here.
They open for dinner service at 5 and am glad we were there because I heard the staff take many calls later coming for reservations.
Quite attentive service from the two ladies who were running tables and food back and forth.
The hostess seemed new? In that she neede help dealing with calls and ringing up a gift card for another customer.
Good place for date night, group party : the center tables were all put together for at least a dozen.
Food wise: I got the trenette (ribbon pasta) pesto , a half portion spaghetti Bolognese and linguine carbonara. Also a calamari appetizer: every SINGLE dish was HEAVILY salted.
We could see the line cook through the open kitchen really doubling down on the salt .
How unfortunate because the pasta was otherwise very nice – freshly made in house.
Caprese insalata was thankfully not salted. Garlic and tomato bruschetta still delicious.
I don’t know if the food gets tasted by the same person preparing it but that’s definitely something the cooks/chef should to look into.

Honestly, this place just feels easy. Nothing pretentious, just good food and a chill atmosphere where you actually want to sit and take your time.

I ordered the spaghetti bolognese, and it really hit the spot. The sauce tasted rich and hearty, and the fresh pasta was done right—not mushy, not stiff. It’s one of those dishes that doesn’t try to reinvent anything, it’s just solid and comforting, and that’s exactly why it works.

The smoked chicken tortellini in pink sauce was probably my favorite, though. The smoky flavor was subtle but noticeable, and it paired really well with the creamy sauce.

We also got the fresh bruschetta bread, which was free and delish. Warm, crispy on the outside, soft in the middle—perfect for tearing apart and scooping up extra sauce.

Overall, it’s the kind of pasta place you’d come back to without thinking twice. Good portions, good flavors, and food that tastes like someone actually cared while making it.

Very authentic Italian restaurant, the pasta tasted so fresh, cooked to perfection, al dente, not chewy at all! The sauce and seasoning was fantastic all around. We tried the calamari fritti and it was so tasty, not much batter. Tried the Italian peroni beer and it was amazing, must try! For dessert we got tiramisu and affogato, it was so good. Worth the 30 minute wait time and the price! will definitely come back and try other dishes. For reference we had the fettucini compleanno and penne alla salsiccia. serving size was a lot, we had left overs. Servers were friendly, atmosphere is very close quarters, good fit for date vibes

La Tavolata is an excellent little Italian restaurant tucked away in a bustling shopping and dining plaza. I’ve had the pleasure of dining here and have also ordered takeout on multiple occasions. Each time was a delicious experience.

The menu features a variety of classic Italian dishes, along with a carefully curated selection of wines and beers. There is no kids’ menu, but they offer off-menu options, such as butter pasta (spaghetti), which my nieces and nephews love.

On recent visits, we made reservations and were seated promptly. Service began with complimentary bread, and we ordered drinks, such as their Pinot Grigio or Peroni beer, while we decided on our dinner.

A few of my favorite dishes are Spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare, Ravioli alla Bolognese, Ravioli ai Funghi, and Spaghetti alla Bolognese. The calamari and spinaci (spinach) were great sides to share. For dessert, we enjoyed the homemade tiramisu and gelato.

The staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy. I highly recommend this place and look forward to dining here again soon.

We came here on a whim, and it was the best decision! We had toasted bread, caprise salad, fried calamari, shrimp Alfredo, ravioli with meat bolognese sauce, and rich dark chocolate gelato.

I’d had fresh pasta before, but I’d never had fresh raviolis. Everything was incredible! Five-star flavors are hard to find in the United States outside of Louisiana, and this place has it in spades!

Great spot for a date night. We ordered the halibut on the specials menu and the spaghetti southern. Very flavorful, we both cleaned our plates. Highly recommend snagging a reservation, especially since it was a Friday night. I was seated as soon I arrived, and my date joined shortly after (some places make you wait until your entire party arrives). Parking is fairly spacious but you may have to park a little further out. Overall, we loved it and would definitely come back. Great value for the prices too.

I’ve been coming to this cozy little pasta café for almost ten years, and it never disappoints. The portions are just right, and the flavors are incredibly well balanced. The atmosphere is intimate and comforting, given their relatively small size—which is a huge plus in my book—and the waitstaff are very friendly and personable. When they say traditionally prepared Italian food with quality fresh ingredients, they absolutely mean it. This is a restaurant that chooses to hone what they have with precision, no need for bells, whistles, gimmicks, or branding.

Of course, there have been a few changes over the years, such as the frutti di mare having more of a tomato base now and the prices going up a bit (understandably; there have been some rough years recently, especially for small restaurants), but I think it’s still worth every penny, and I continue to recommend this place to whomever I can.

It’s best to make a reservation whenever possible, and don’t hesitate to try some of their specials, especially if there’s a fruit caprese or burrata appetizer. Both the aforementioned frutti di mare and the scallopine di pollo ai funghi are my usual go-to choices, but you really can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. I always look forward to my next visit; may there be many more to come.

This was our second attempt to eat here. The first time a year ago but they were too busy. We got reservations this time as recommended. They open right at 5 as were our reservations.

We were sat and drink orders were taken. Our drinks arrived just a few minutes later and we ordered. Wine glasses were a bit spotty and mine had lipstick on it.

Then the food arrived along with bread. I had the shrimp and mussels. Wonderful sweet year spicy flavor. My wife had the Bolognese to which she felt was just average flavor and wished for more. They say they make their pasta fresh daily and it did seem fresh.

Our server was nice but a little hard to get her attention for more bread and had to grab another server.

Overall a better Italian restaurant for the area but we prefer so many others out of the area. We will give it another try next time in the area and see how it goes.

Nota Bene: Call ahead of time to make a reservation so you don’t have to wait. The place is small (which I like – makes it more personal) and not your usual big named restaurant in the area. That being said, here’s the review:

One of South Street’s best kept secrets, La Tavolata offers a delightful escape from the bustling Asian food scene in the area. This cozy, intimate space transports diners to a quaint Italian trattoria, where the focus is on simple, delicious food.

While parking can be a bit of a challenge, the warm and welcoming atmosphere, coupled with attentive service, makes it well worth the effort. The staff is knowledgeable and eager to guide you through the menu, offering expert recommendations.

The real star of the show is the food. The pasta is made fresh in-house, ensuring a truly authentic Italian dining experience. The generous portions and high-quality ingredients make every bite a pleasure. The wine list complements the dishes perfectly, offering a variety of options to suit every palate.

If you’re seeking a satisfying Italian meal at a reasonable price, La Tavolata is the place to be. It’s a hidden gem that’s sure to impress.

Some of the best Italian food I’ve had. The spicy pink sauce is amazing. Bread is super delicious. The soup was good. Salad was okay. This place is a must try. I highly recommend it. It’s not too big inside. Nice small spot. I highly suggest to make a reservation so you won’t have to wait hours for a table.
