Wed afternoon wasn’t busy so we got seated right away. We got a nice waitress and she took our drink order and brought it out right away.
I had a chicken sandwich which I thought was pretty good. I would try it again. The fries were prob frozen from a bag. They were ok.
My girlfriend tried a brisket sandwich and she said is was very dry. Good thing they have BBQ sauce on the table cause she had to use it.
I ended up paying like $55 both us both which I thought wasn’t a waste of money.
I did want to go back and try ribs and brisket but the reviews are not good. I would hate to spend a lot and get bad food.
I lived in Austin for 20years.
So, i do believe i know what good barbecue is.
1. The brisket is little dry… it should be moist like juicy moist
2. They should serve bread does not matter if it is sirvharge or not…but theybshould serve it.
3. Each brisket is thick and theybwere way too long cut.
4, they added fat to $ per lb. (Never seen this in Austin).
5. Sausage was dry as well.
Only good thing about this is their atmosphere of restaurant.
If you are from south like me… avoid here at all cost.
The menu was deceiving and limited which you wouldn’t know unless you looked at the menu ahead of time. You have to scan a QR code which I really detest. The staff are wearing shirts with different sections of the cow, but only offer burgers, brisket, and chicken really. No steaks!
It was cool inside. The seats were uncomfortable. Unless you have a very skinny, narrow backside – you have to basically sit in the middle to edge of the seat, you won’t make it all the way back. It looked like all the chairs were this way.
Service was great! Friendly & helpful people
Watermelon Sugar was ok
48-hour Smoked Wings with Buffalo Sauce was amazing this I can eat a dozen of hehehe. You can taste the smokeyness even through the spicy Buffalo sauce.
Pitmaster’s Pick – 1 lb of brisket, 4 ribs, 4 sausages & 1/2 smoked chicken choice of (4) medium or (2) large sides, serves 4
Brisket was tender and good
Sausages were strange, way too much Tyme or Rosemary (I’m not very familiar with either, so I can’t exactly pinpoint it, I just know it is very pungent)
Smoke chicken was dry, which is weird because the wings were delicious…
Ribs were OK
Baked Beans were so watery, more like a soup… it tasted burnt
Collard Greens were good, once I got home and drained all of the liquid, which was very oily.
I would stick to the wings and skip everything else…
The food arrived quickly; however, it was cold, flavorless, and unimpressive. The brisket was dry and rubbery, the ribs were tough and chewy, and the sides tasted like they came straight from a freezer. I’ve had better barbecue at a gas station in Texas, and that’s not an exaggeration. Even the presentation was lackluster, like no effort was put into making the meal enjoyable.
The only saving grace of the evening was the bingo, which was actually fun—but even that ended in disappointment. We couldn’t redeem our rewards tonight, which was frustrating since we’re all from out of state and won’t be back. At this point, it feels like a complete waste of time and money. House of Que might work if you’re just there for drinks and entertainment, but if you’re looking for quality barbecue, good service, or even fair rewards, this isn’t the place. Definitely not worth the hype, and we’ll never return.
Updated: the BBQ made me violently sick. I was up all night. When I finally got to sleep it was time to leave. This was hands down the worst eating experience I’ve had in a very long time.
