The food was delicious, and the server was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. They checked on us frequently, making us feel valued. However, the tables were too close together, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere reminiscent of a fish market. It was difficult to communicate with your table, even when we spoke loudly.

my personal fav crab fried rice.!

There was no respite from the constant noise, making it hard to enjoy a quiet meal.

Despite these minor issues, the overall ambiance was great, and everything else was amazing.

Come for the food. Stay for the staff. I’m not sure I know enough superlatives to describe this place. You feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door. It’s clear that the staff enjoy working there. We had the duck and lobster (yes, all on one plate) which was exquisitely flavored and cooked to perfection and the drunken prawns and lobster noodles. Dessert was the fried pound cake. Everything was beautifully presented (as you can see). The service was second to none and enthusiastic. If you get a chance to eat here just go. You won’t be disappointed.

One of the best restaurant experiences we’ve ever had. Service was elite across the board. Drinks were great, food was amazing, since it was our first time we went with their staples of the Lobster Fried Rice and Crispy Beef, both were amazing. Went with the Buttermilk Frog Legs as an starter, which was lights out. Went with the Bananas Foster Pound Cake as a shared dessert which also was amazing.

Our only regret was not coming here for dinner the 1st night we were in town

Can’t express enough how great everything was

I often get nervous when a place has so much hype. I find myself doubting the praise like it’s disingenuous bootlicking. HOWEVER. I am happy to report that Poor Calvin’s is absolutely worth the hype (and that nothing tasted of said boot!)

This is a special occasion kind of dining experience. I’m not just saying that because of the price tag. I’m saying it because the menu is beautifully sparse – they don’t overwhelm you with ingredients and options that are too similar to each other. Calvin’s staff EXPERTLY walks you through their offerings with beautiful descriptions of palates and flare. Shout out to Linda, who was more culinary concierge than waiter!!

We really enjoyed the pork belly eggs and the lobster Mac (which be warned LIT me up). But the real standouts were the wontons and the fried rice.

The wontons are served with a trio of sauces that are so unexpected and perfectly harmonious! Red berry. Mango. Balsamic truffle. Like… WHAAAAAT?! Absolutely amazing. The fried rice was so decadent – chock full of seafood and veggies – and you know how most fried rice requires a healthy dash of soy or some sauce to moisten it up? NOT THIS ONE. I don’t know what voodoo Calvin is using but holy crab it was moist and ridiculous.

Would I recommend? 10/10 absolutely
Will I go back? Yes, and can’t wait!

I had a great time celebrating my birthday here. The food was delicious, fulfilling, and seasoned just right. Jo-Jo was a great server. He explained each menu option we inquired about. He was very patient with the eater that needed exclusions and made a great suggestion for a meal that was suitable. Definitely returning.

If you have high expectations of this restaurant then your expectations will definitely be met. We walked in for our 7pm reservations and were met with friendly staff and a grown and sexy vibe. The dimly lit establishment isn’t too big or small, perfect for an intimate dinner. Our waiter, Gavin was amazing! He was very personable and professional. He was knowledgeable of the menu, giving us the spotlight entrees of the evening and taking our order, and even gave us great suggestions based on what we liked. The food?! Omg, you will be thoroughly pleased. Everything came out on time, hot, fresh, and a healthy amount. Everything has a unique flavor and was absolutely delicious. The drinks accommodated our meals perfect. Not too strong, but definitely strong enough to make a good night better. Lol. All In all definitely put this on your list.

This was my third time here and surprise surprise, I enjoyed everything! It can be a little hectic sometimes, but this place is amazing. The crab beignets may have been my favorite from the small bites. We got the scallop and lobster drunken noodle and it was great, I wish the scallops were seasoned a little more or marinated to soak in some flavor. PHO cocktail may be my new favorite cocktail ever.

Overall 10/10. Highly recommend and our server Ariel last night was so great! She broke down the flavor palette of the drinks and food so well. Come here ready to eat and with a desire to try new things, they do fusion right here!

Had a week long work trip in GA / FL and this was the best dinner spot I ate at. The food was incredible. I had two specials. The dumplings in Tom Yum sauce and the meatloaf with these really tasty fried tomatoes. Felt like I got a bit of southern influence with Asian flavors. I sat at the bar, both bartenders were very accommodating and welcoming. A nice feeling when traveling solo from a far off place. I met three strangers at the bar which made for a memorable night. I am going to recommend this place to anyone that goes to Atlanta.

My server, Ariel, was excellent—she made ordering easy and made sure everything went smoothly throughout the meal.

The menu has been refreshed recently, and I’d definitely recommend the Tiger Cry and the garlic shrimp. The crispy beef entrée was very filling with bold, well-balanced flavors. The old fashioneds were also well done and paired nicely with the food.

If you’re looking for an Asian fusion spot with spicy, shareable dishes and strong cocktails, Poor Calvin’s is worth checking out.

Poor Calvin’s is an absolute gem that delivers one of the most memorable dining experiences you can have in the city. Chef Calvin Phan is a true master of flavor—his ability to blend Asian influences with Southern comfort is nothing short of extraordinary. Every dish feels intentionally crafted, thoughtfully balanced, and packed with bold, unforgettable flavors.

I ordered the popular lobster fried rice, and it did not disappoint. The portion was generous, the lobster was tender and plentiful, and the seasoning was perfect. The lobster wontons were equally impressive—crispy on the outside, rich and decadent inside, with a sauce that tied everything together beautifully. The seafood spring rolls were light, flavorful, and wonderfully fresh, making them an excellent starter.

And the desserts? Absolutely phenomenal. I tried the pound cake, which was warm, moist, and comforting in the best way. The peach empanadas were a standout—not too sweet, flaky, and bursting with flavor. Chef Calvin clearly puts as much care into his desserts as he does his savory dishes.

Overall, Poor Calvin’s is a must-go restaurant. Whether you’re a foodie or simply someone who enjoys great flavors, this spot offers an experience that will stick with you long after the meal is over. Highly recommended!
