La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant at Poplar/Forest-Hill Irene in Memphis, TN, has been our favorite place to eat for many years. We go there to eat at least once a week. We go often enough that we know many of the people who work there by name. Today, March 8, 2026, we went to this restaurant to eat after church which is not unusual at all.
I ordered the same that I always get… tacos plate. I ordered crispy as I always order. I was brought 2 soft shell tacos each wrapped in tin foil. My taco had never been in tin foil before today. I opened the foil and there was a taco in a soft shell about half the size of what I have ordered for years. I mentioned to the waitress that I wanted hard shell. One hard shell taco was brought to me on a plate (not in tin foil) and it was about half the size of the ones that I have ordered for years. It had 2 tiny pieces of lettuce and 3 cubes of tomato plus some meat – that’s all that there was. It was horrible and I was very surprised since we have eaten here for years and have never had any problems with the food or the service. I did not have my phone with me to take a picture or I would have done so.
The basket of chips were cold and there were about 7 or 8 large chips on the top of the basket and all of the chips under those few large chips were so tiny that it was difficult to get any sauce on the chip.
We were very disappointed and displeased.
I don’t mind paying what ever the price for a good. meal, but it is not a good feeling to eat what was served to us today. My husband said that we would not go back to La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant at Poplar/Forest-Hill Irene ever again.
There are several Mexican places in this area to eat Mexican food. We will be trying some of them.
I very much hope that this information gets to the restaurant owners.

The family and I tried La Hacienda in Germantown tonight and it was delicious. We were seated very quickly, our waiter Jose quickly took our drink and appetizer orders. The restaurant is clean and well lit with a variety of tables and a top shelf liquor bar. The food came out very quickly and was enjoyed by the entire family. We WILL be back again, thank you again Jose’.

We have rediscovered this place after years of not going. The food is outstanding. More tex mex I think, lots of cheese. It’s all so tasty and fresh when it gets to the table. Drinks are wonderful. The servers all work so hard. It’s one of our routine restaurants now!

Unfortunately, I have to rate this place a 1 star. I had Kayla and she was okay, she likes to talk about herself and didn’t quite get to the food menu right quick. She was a bit rude too. Aside from that, I was with my husband and I ordered the Chimichanga with rice and beans and (Warning) I found hair in my food! I told my waitress about it and she apologized but insisted that it was my hair. My hair is ginger and the hair I found in my food was long black hair. Manager was very nice and understanding about this, but I’m a bit skeptical about coming back to this place again because my Husbands cheese fries looked like someone had ate them too, like the dried cheese was pulled apart.

Visited this Mexican restaurant during a trip to Memphis. It is a typical Mexican eatery and it has most of the same dishes you would find at other restaurants like it. I ordered a sangria and they brought me a frozen drink, it was still good but I was expecting a regular one. I ordered the fajitas to eat and they were good as well. We had a large party and the restaurant was able to accommodate us and get our food ordered and out relatively quickly. I would go here again.

I ordered online and came in to pick up my order. I stood up front for a few minutes before being greeted. I asked where can I go to place a pickup order. They informed me to go back to the far side of the bar in the back. I am not a small guy. 6’4 and I stood by this area for almost 20 minutes being passed by server after server after server after server after server as if I was a ghost. The effort some of the staff went through not to notice I was there was ridiculous. So I noticed the area with the orders and saw my name. I promptly took my order and left after being ignored for 20 minutes. Food is okay but not the best. The service is very lacking. Who ignores patrons?
On another note, I have since taken my business elsewhere and Local Lime is night and day with the service for pickup orders. Will take my money elsewhere.

A nice casual place with some good Tex-Mex food! The menu is varied and has plenty to offer for both carnivores and vegetarians. The quesadillas are tasty, the portions are generous, but it’s the refried beans that won the show for me!

Great service! The food is good. Expect to pay $15 per person plus your beverage. Your first basket of chips is free, then you pay for more. Friday night is the busiest time. Plenty of parking.

I don’t know what’s going on but this place is an absolute ice box on the inside tonight. The wait staff are wearing jackets and sweatshirts and almost every customer is wearing a coat. We were shivering trying to eat. Our cheese dip was getting solid before our eyes.
