I was disappointed with our dinner experience at Sushiya, especially since several people had recommended it. The first thing I noticed is that it’s not very clean or orderly in the restaurant. Behind the front desk is a lot of clutter, things piled up around the kitchen half-walls, and no regard for ambiance. The decor gives cafeteria vibes and that’s not expected from the outside appearance or the fact that this restaurant is in the heart of upscale Hanover, NH. My first impression was, “oh no, this is a little sketchy”. There are no mixed drinks on the menu and that was the next big letdown – only beer, wine, sake, soda. Our server was good, not great. Very kind but didn’t check back in other than breezing by quickly 1-2 times. She didn’t offer drink refills, which after finishing my wine in the first 15 minutes, would’ve been nice. One thing we enjoyed were these little bowls of appetizers they surprised us with – one for each person at the table but for us to all share. There was a sprout dish, a broccoli, a cucumber, and a potato. They all had mystery sauce or seasonings or heat. It would’ve been nice to know what was in them since we didn’t order them. It was kind of a guessing game which was somewhat fun but also felt a little risky pending people’s food preferences or dietary restrictions. We eat at a lot of Asian restaurants across New England and beyond, and love sushi, but this sushi was just mid – the plating was okay, the flavors were standard, and nothing really popped out to make us want to return.

Saw this place while out for a walk yesterday, came back today. The food is great, freshly made. The tempura shrimp came with lots of veggies

This was one of the worst dining experiences ever! The service was more than awful, we waited and waited and waited for drinks, to order and then for our food. When the food did arrive they brought the entire order out at once, so the warm food was cold. Two of us had to return our meals due to very bad tasting fish. So disappointed by them, they didn’t even try to make amends after such a bad dining experience. I will never go again and will be sure never to recommend this place ever!

The food was great! Lots of unique choices on the menu. Service was slow, but I think that was caused by the chaos in the kitchen. To go orders and in-restaurant orders were scattered everywhere on tables. Two other tables who came in after us got their food before us. Because the food was so good, we will definitely give them another try.

The menu at this place is extensive. And our food was awesome! Meaning, of course, that we’ll need to visit often so we can try lots of different dishes. I had a Ramen. A REAL Ramen. The broth alone could have been a meal. Delicious. Servings size was quite generous as well.

I may update my review when I return (and I will) and try the Korean items. I feel like that’s probably where they will shine the brightest. All I had on this visit was the sushi, which was not too bad. I mean, the rolls were good, but the yellowtail nigiri was a tiny bit “fishy” which makes me uneasy.
The salmon was okay. I did enjoy the torched salmon. Super yummy!
I devoured all of the Korean pickles they served, prior. I’d love to try their ramen as well. The service was very nice. I enjoyed my visit and will try some other items.

Pretty good experience. Very nice ambiance and good variety of food. Fairly priced and super delicious. Service is variable. Sometimes it’s fast and they’re super nice (bring a Korean), but sometimes it’s crowded, they’re understaffed, and forget stuff. Best if you want high quality Korean food!

Ordered 3 rolls and seaweed salad. Dartmouth roll was the best by far. Ivy and Lebanon roll were a simple in comparison. Received banchan for the table which we loved 4 out of the 5 dishes. Good prices for sushi

I love going to SushiYa with my family! The sushi is delicious and creative. The best thing on the sushi roll menu is the Super Dragon Roll. It’s incredible! I love trying the Korean dishes as well, there’s nothing else that compares in the Upper Valley. My two year old son loves the Half Udon noodle bowl with broccoli, veggie tempura, and steamed veggie gyoza. The staff is always welcoming and very efficient. We will be back again and again!
