Stopped here for the first time on our way home from the Texas Renaissance Fair.
It was pretty busy but we were greeted and seated immediately.
The waiter (sorry can’t recall his name) arrived at the table within 2 minutes to take our drink order then about 3 minutes after bringing our drinks he was back to take our food order.
Big plus, he spoke loudly and clearly enough to be easily heard and understood even over the crowd.
He also brought yeast rolls with the drinks and oh my, they were amazing! Soft, warm, and yeasty!
Our food arrived quite quickly considering how busy they were and everything was piping hot.
Their menu claims they have the ‘best chicken fried steak’ in Texas according to The Eyes of Texas (not sure who that is). So, I ordered the small one.
Was it good? Yes. Was it the best I’ve had? No, that honor still stays with T-Bone Tom’s in Kemah.
It did have quite a bit of extra breading around the edges of the actual meat and wasn’t cooked quite long enough. As you can see in the photo the breading was pretty light colored.
The flavor was good, but not exceptional.
I also had fried okra and mashed potatoes.
The okra also needed a bit more time in the fryer as it wasn’t very crisp at all.
The potatoes and gravy were both very good.

Food is delicious definitely would come back to eat here. I drove a hour away to come and eat here. Someone recommended it and they were right. Delicious. Honestly everything looked good that the people was ordering. Fresh rolls come out with butter.

We were at a conference in Tomball and were looking for a place to eat. Someone had recommended Goodson’s cafe to us. What a great place to relax and unwind after a long drive. Our friends had the catfish and my wife and I had both had salads. Very nice atmosphere. The gal that was our waitress gave us amazing service.

An old favorite restaurant in the Tomball area if you like good country cooking!Its been here since the 1950’s!
We had the fried Catfish, corn & string beans and the smothered grilled chicken with mash potatoes, gravy, and corn.
The awasome home fluffy home-made rolls are free and excellent!
They even have good margaritas!
I recommend this restaurant to anyone that want to experience home cooked meals!

I had a delicious meal at Goodson’s. My husband and I enjoy giving our business to locally owned spots and Goodson’s looked like a good choice. We loved the food. We both had the sunshine salad with a side of their famous yeast rolls. The gravy that came with the rolls was perfect. The service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back to try the chicken fried steak.

The chicken fried steak and fried fish are both outstanding — huge portions, great flavor, and real Southern comfort food.
