We flew in from San Antonio to celebrate our son, graduating from a military school. They told us that they had heard alot of great things (from their friends) but had never tried it due to time restraints on their part. This has a Mexican and Japanese fusion style. Compared to other restaurants in the area, it is alittle pricey. But we are celebrating!! It is a small, cozy establishment (so apparently you might have to wait)there were several ppl outside– smiling and happily waiting, which is always a good sign. We were told a 20min wait, signed up and waited alittle longer then expected, but apologized and we were finally seated. The waitress was very knowledgeable of the dishes, we asked what she liked or ppls favorite. She suggested the jalisco sushi rolls and the Takomaki sushi rolls. My husband and I got both so we can share and try both out. Son got the birria tacos, and DIL got tempura rolls. Each dish was OUTSTANDING! Son said his birria tacos were cooked too perfection (not to hard to bite into but enough to dip in sauce without getting too soggy. It the sushi rolls also came with shaved carrots and some kind of crab salad? Not exactly sure but it was so fresh and light complimenting the spice of the eel sauce on my TakoMaki rolls. We also ordered some chips and dip! Again, they were so good alone with the spices they used, and when dipped in the salsa Verde or red salsa…elevated them even more. The dips had some spice to it, but not enough to prevent anyone to stop eating! DIL ordered a margarita with tajine on the rim, and I got a Piña Colada! So good, not too much liquor that its off putting, but enough to make you dance alittle while taking your sips. Delicious! Unfortunately, we will be flying back to San Antonio, where they will be coming also for next duty station, so we wont have a chance to come back for a while, BUT I am hoping to convince others to tske a chance and try this place out. I promise, your taste buds will thank you later! Thank you to our very sweet waitress, she did an excellent job!

Takomaki is not a place you simply eat—it is a place you submit to.
From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels charged, like the kitchen knows exactly what it’s about to do to you and has no intention of holding back. The aromas hit first—warm, smoky, rich—pulling you in before you even realize you’ve stopped moving. This isn’t casual food energy. This is confident. Deliberate. Almost provocative.
Then the food arrives.
The tacos are built with intention. The meat is juicy and perfectly seasoned, the kind of flavor that doesn’t rush you but slowly tightens its grip with every bite. Each layer hits in sequence—heat, richness, texture—never overwhelming, always controlled. The sauces are smooth, bold, and unapologetically indulgent. They don’t sit on top of the tacos; they take over.
Takomaki understands restraint, which is exactly why it hits so hard. Nothing is sloppy. Nothing is accidental. Every bite feels curated, like a slow burn instead of a cheap thrill. You don’t rush through this food—you stay with it.
By the time you’re done, you’re not just full. You’re satisfied in a way that makes other taco spots feel forgettable. Most places try to impress. Takomaki seduces.
This isn’t a quick stop.
This is a commit-and-enjoy experience.

Mexican AND Japanese?! Well, I had gyozas and shrimp tacos and both were amazing. The flavor was spot on. The place looks very unassuming, don’t let that fool you – the food is excellent.

Food was delicious. I love that dishes come on wooden platters. Everything was wonderful and full of flavor. We had steak tacos, quesabirria tacos, and spicy shrimp rolls. Place was quaint, good music playing.

Had a great dinner at TakoMaki! The food is a fun hybrid of Mexican and Japanese. Our food was out relatively quickly and was delicious. Service was also outstanding and our server, Cassandra, was very attentive to our needs. The atmosphere was good. It is a little loud but is fun and uplifting. Would definitely recommend.

We just had dinner here for the first time and I literally have nothing bad to say about the experience. The food was fast and delicious, and totally different than everything else offered in this small town. Our server was Cassandra and she was amazing… Totally on top of it. We did not have to wait long for our food, she anticipated our needs, and was super helpful in making suggestions, knowing that this was our first time. We also ordered mixed drink and they were amazing. The food was top-notch, high-quality, and cooked to perfection. The blending of flavors was something you would find in a big city. I’m so glad that our small town has something like this.

When you pull up to this place you can not tell if it’s open. You can not see the lighted open signs in the windows. A few other customers had the same problem. Other than that the food was amazing. Staff was wonderful! We got there just in time before it filled up.

We ordered fresh sushi, but yet the rice came out very hot. The inside part of the sushi was cold and fresh as sushi should be, But the rice was warm. It was definitely a different experience and by all means I’m not saying the food. It was bad at all, I just was not expecting hot rice on a fresh sushi. They only serve one kind of Japanese beer, So not much variety on that style of beer, But the sake was good and the Japanese beer itself was good.
I would recommend this to a friend.
