We just had the meatball appetizer and a beer, so I can’t give a full review until we have an entree. Being an large open space it is sort of cold inside on Thanksgiving weekend, but they had just opened. The meatballs were good, service friendly, and we like the openness of the space.

Not just a hotel restaurant! It’s a great restaurant that just happens to be attached to a Sheraton downtown Raleigh! Great Italian cuisine at affordable prices! We made reservations for a Tuesday, not sure how busy it gets on weekends. Food was great, staff was fantastic, and the Turtle Cheesecake was superb! By the way, the kid’s spaghetti and meatballs was enough to feed a grown man! We sat in a small private room that seats about 8 people. Either park on the street or in a parking lot/garage. It is on Fayetteville Street downtown.

I have been wanting to try Jimmy Vs and finally went here for my birthday lunch. Didn’t know what to expect so went online and put a reservation in. We went early lunch and were like the first customers. Fifi was our server and she was very attentive. The bartender (I didn’t get her name) also made my margarita and wished me a happy birthday. Fifi had the customers all sing happy birthday to me and then served a Tiramisu! It was delicious. We enjoyed the food and found it to be reasonably priced. We ordered: Burrata, Margarita and Forager Pizzas, Margarita drink.

I liked its placement in the hotel for breakfast and its variety of options with golf and the rest of the city being just outside. The Brioche French toast was so flawless and rich I came back for more a second day. The Meatball smash was not what I expected as they literally smashed the meatball into the burger, but it was the best burger I have tasted my entire life.

Server seemed bored and disengaged. Food was on level or even below Olive Garden. The grilled chicken in the Alfredo was obviously cooked ahead of time and kept warm as it was hard and dry. Pasta had no seasoning. Calamari and shrimp appetizer was overcooked. Seems to have gone downhill. Staff were openly mean and degrading to male host. Restaurant seemed in disrepair, as they had huge stains on the ceiling and large amounts of dust on the signs and memorabilia.

Our server on Tuesday evening barely came around even after we asked for menus. And as a couple folks trickled in later, he never came around to see what they wanted. They had to go up to the bar. The tiramisu tasted like it’s been in the freezer forever.

I went back for breakfast on wed morning. Chef Lou was awesome and he indeed make the best breakfast sandwich ever!

I chose to stay at this particular hotel only because of Jimmy V’s. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at all of the memorabilia but that was it. The restaurant had dirty tables that stayed that way the entire time we were there. There were two overflowing trash cans that stayed at the end of the bar. The bartender informed me that they were out of a popular ingredient and was unable to make the specialty drink they had listed. I understand running out of items but the delivery of informing a customer could have been better. Everyone working there seemed to be very overwhelmed and to me it wasn’t that busy. We chose not to eat there because of this. I realize that I do not know what was going on behind the scenes. I have 20 years of restaurant experience and we never wanted our customers to feel our stress. I feel like if Jimmy V were alive he wouldn’t want his name on this establishment any longer.

I had a 10 pm reservation on New Year’s Eve. We arrived 10 minutes early. The host was a mess because they were backed up. Another couple came to the host stand and stated they were seated at 8 PM and it’s was 10pm and they hadn’t even received any water or no one has taken their order for their meal. They were sitting outside on the heated patio. The host had us speak to his general manager, and the general manager couldn’t provide any assurances that we will be served within the next hour and did not even ever seat us, we just stood there for over 20 minutes and so we ended up leaving going somewhere else.

They labeled our reservation as a no show on opentable but we showed up. Just read the other reviews on this restaurant. The host kept saying they let a cook leave at 6 PM that day and that’s the reason for the over 1 delay for service to anyone.

Went on Christmas. Besides the regular menu there were 2 prix fixe options, price rib with Parmesan risotto and glazed carrots. Or a pork chop with sweet potatoes and another veg. You could also choose between a salad or butternut soup.

For the price, the food was edible but not enticing. The plates looked like they had been prepped enmasse. They were only warm. There was none of the gloss you get from fresh cut prime, or steaming risotto with cheese beginning its melt. They weren’t hot and fresh. More like prepped and held. A long while, and it was only 1pm. Heaven help the late afternoon crowd.

The salad was baby greens with feta, pomegranate arils, candied pecans, mandarin sections served with a raspberry vinaigrette. As these salads go, it was ok. The raspberry vinaigrette looked more like a raspberry yogurt dressing and was a little sweet. Not objectional, but it didn’t leave you wanting more.

There was no bread served with dinner, and it was missed. Moist chewy focaccia would have been delicious but there was none.
Fortunately for other diners, the regular menu was also available and people could fortify the prix fixe with fries, pizza, calamari. This was not a generous sit down dinner at your grandma’s bountiful table. (Note: enjoy those with gratitude as long and as often as possible.)

We do not do alcohol because of health reasons. There was no up selling of beverages, no cocktail menu was presented, let alone the possibilities of mocktails. Beer & wine was listed on the main menu. Variations on tea or fruity beverages? Non.

I suppose with our meager order of 2 prix fixe perhaps our waiter, Patrick, assumed there was no hope to increase the ticket. That was the last time we saw him l. No offers to refill our beverages, no stopping to assure us our meals were as we wanted them. Never did he inquire how we wanted our prime rib. Others dropped off our salads, and returned in a timely manner with our entrees. We asked the person who cleared our table if a dessert menu was available, and she immediately returned with it. A while later Patrick appeared, and was surprised we wanted dessert. It is blessed Christmas, of course we want dessert. And a refill please.

So, was it awful? No. Do I long to return? Not really, Maybe to get delivery of a wood fired pizza.

Jimmy V, these folks are nice butome of them are lackadaisical. Like the kitchen crew and Patrick. The place isn’t packed. If the food was fresh and hot off the cooker.

Ambition did arise as we finished our dessert. (Dessert was typical prefab fare)

Patrick stopped twice to collect our check long before we finished the sweets. Really, that is gauche. We usually tip very high, 50%, on holidays because we appreciate them being open, the warmth of staff and fellow dinners makes our quiet holiday pass gentler. Alas.
