Wonderful service! Very attentive and warm! Mango roll was great and so was the yam avo roll. Minor note that the spicy chicken was delicious but not spicy, more of a sweet chili type flavour, still delicious though!

I ordered two dynamite rolls. It was not at all of good quality. And there was a hair as well. Very dissappointed. I would never recommend this place.

This unique sushi place on Fitzgerald in Courtenay makes the best sushi around. Red dragon and the yam, prawn avocado rolls were freshly made, perfectly rolled. Portions are very generous. Vegetable tempura is on point – crisp and delicious. A delicious meal!

Ichiban is consistently 25% more expensive than other sushi restaurants in the area. $9.95 for a dynamite roll, $12.50 for a spicy tuna roll, $7.25 (!!!) for a tekka maki. 6pc prawn tempura is $17.95. All that would be fine if we’re talking some fantastic sushi but it’s at best the same quality as other spots, and at worst a little below average. Go to Kobo, Jo, Wara, Seh-mi before you overspend for standard sushi. No hate just the reason I will never order here again

Ichiban is a cute restaurant that is set up well and the staff is very friendly however their sushi needs improvement.

I have ordered twice, once via take out and most recently dine-in. I only order basic maki and uramaki rolls and both times my rolls have had a significant fishy taste/smell to them which indicates to me there is an issue with the ingredients or the preparation.

Absolutely the best sushi in town, been to many places but nothing like this. Food is fresh and very big portions, the sticky rice is incomparable, nowhere does it better, Cooked to perfection. Atmosphere is warm & welcoming, family friendly, would recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for a great place to dine

Tuna tataki was over cooked. Felt like I was eating Tuna steak. Toro had “thawed” taste with a lot of moisture/water on the sushi. Service was amazing and great people but sushi alone was average for the island..

This used to be the #1 place to go, and that’s what makes this visit so disappointing. The quality has really slipped. The tempura was just a regular batter, overly oily, and not very good at all. It’s honestly kind of sad — this place used to be great and set the bar, but it feels like it’s lost what made it special. I hope they can find their way back to what they once were.

So happy I popped into this place while staying in the area! On a Tuesday night at 7PM (an hour before close), there was plenty of attentive staff, and the place was full! This is clearly the place the locals come to. 🙂 A generous pot of tea, gomae , and house roll were all divine! I stopped by another restaurant first with lower prices (which were actually old ones on here … higher in restaurant comparable to here) – and I’m SO happy I came here instead. 10/10!

Absolutely blown away by my dinner tonight!

Entire soft shell crab done in tempura (only had to pay an extra $1.25 for it to be done gluten free)

Gluten free prawn/yam tempura and avocado roll (absolutely enormous!)

K’omox roll. Wonderful fresh sockeye and avocado.

And the miso soup (not seen) was cheaper and 3x the size than other places with massive chunks of soft tofu (and gluten free, which it usually is not).

I’m not one to write reviews, but this was next level sushi and service and I hope Ichiban knows how incredible they are.
