I asked if the fruit could be removed, and they said yes. I then asked if the top could be filled in with chocolate buttercream where the fruit had been, but I was told they didn’t have any available. Instead, they added espresso beans to cover the space, and unfortunately, it does not look great.
This bakery is about 40 minutes from my home, and I chose them because I had previously ordered a cake from them that turned out beautifully. That positive experience is why this situation is so surprising and disappointing.
I don’t understand why the cake wasn’t piped fully (simple piping on the top nothing fancy) with chocolate buttercream to begin with, or why more buttercream couldn’t be prepared to fix the issue. The writing is also very bunched together between 30th and birthday. There is missing chocolate in the “B” in Birthday, which I noticed once I got home. I don’t feel comfortable giving this cake to my friend for her birthday because of how it looks. It is a very sad looking cake. I am currently trying to scramble and find somewhere that can get me a cake by tomorrow night.
I had higher expectations based on my past experience and truly hope they can improve their attention to detail and customer service in the future.
I am writing especially now because my husband and I were so fortunate to have Shamane bake our wedding cake. We got the French Lemon Pound Cake as well as Devil’s Food Candied Orange, and they were both mouth-watering.
Moreover, Shamane worked with us to make the cake of our dreams. We had some very specific design ideas, and she executed them beautifully. We are so happy (and lucky) to have had Shamane’s Bakery bake our cake!

The quality of her sweet and savory offerings can’t be beat and every time I go in it is with a smile on my face because the staff is so friendly. (And typically super busy!)
The triple chocolate Christmas cake pictured was a special order and it was just as delicious as it was hard to cut into because it was so beautifully finished. Everyone loved it. Thank you Shamane and crew!
Perhaps they are better for sweet things, which seems to be their focus.
I see the owner’s reply below. Two things: First, I asked the sales person the difference between the hot and cold, and none of the information you note below was conveyed to me. I was simply told I could order it either way. Warn your customers if it is not intended to be eaten as ordered Second, I have never order a Caprese sandwich warm. At all other places I am have had it, the bread was tasty and not stale, and there was a far more flavorful spread.
