Great food and place with amazing history. Plenty of parking in back. Some memorabilia inside with several tables to sit at. The place is bright and spic and span clean. They prepare your dog the way you like right in front of you not hidden in some back kitchen. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The secret sauce is worth the try and you will not get it anywhere else. I enjoyed it. They also have all other type of toppings which many hot dog places do not provide. I had the milk shake and they know how to make the right.
The prices are quite reasonable although they do surcharge you for use of credit card. This place is well worth the trip and will be back again. It is off the beaten path but worth the drive to get to.

We live 3 hours away and for years it was always a tradition to stop in and see Joe and John, get a “Blue Plate Special” (5 “Mealies” on a blue plate), and visit family. We were very sad when they closed down in 2013 and though the place and dogs would be tossed into the dustbin of history. Well, HUGE props to the person who revived Charlie’s and brought back the mealie!! The place is updated and modern, and the mealies are as we remembered them, AMAZING! They have more menu items than the original Charlie’s Pool Room, and their fries are delicious. They also framed the original art that Joe and John used to have on thr wall, and also have an area with the original cash register, counter, glass case, and pictures of Joe and John. Couldn’t be more pleased with what they have done. Thank you for resurrecting the greatest hot dog joint of all time, eternally grateful !!!

This place came highly recommended by New Jersey Hot Dog Joint and it did not disappoint. I am not a fan of onions, but had to try the secret sauce. It was fantastic, was expecting a heavy onion taste, but that was not the case. It’s a must have. They just added Burgers to the menu and they were perfect. Fresh and seasoned to perfection using the best ingredients from a local farm. The size of the burger was perfect. So good. The service was fantastic as the staff was super friendly, they shared stories about the history of Charlie’s. My initial order was so good, I wanted more and ordered it again. Cannot wait to go back. Prices were fair.

Charlie’s Pool Room in #Alpha, #NJ suddenly and sadly closed in 2013 after serving over a century as a pool hall and almost nearly as long as a hot dog joint. After much buzz this past summer, though, the location finally reopened as Charlie’s Hot Dogs. Much has changed, but one thing remains the same: Grandma Fencz’s “Secret Sauce.” Charlie’s still serves up their own distinct concoction called a “Mealie,” a hot dog serving-style topped with pickle, hot peppers, onion, and, of course, the secret sauce. It’s a uniquely Hungarian take on the area’s well-known MOP serving-style (that’s Mustard, Onion, Pickle), one that cannot be replicated anywhere else because of the highly guarded recipe. Glad to see them pay plenty of homage to the former iteration with the decor while taking the business forward in a new direction. Check them out! #INeverSausageaHotDog

What a blast from the past! Just had two Mealies. The ‘secret sauce’ is just like I remember. Nice folks working there, too! And excellent fries. They are adding to their menu in upcoming weeks. The decor is very modern – they did an amazing job on the renovation of the building. Excited to have Charlie’s back in town

Not from around here and got hungry and stopped in last minute for some quick food and I was not disappointed! I got a chili cheese hot dog and it was delicious. The French fries were freshly made and you can tell the oil is fresh. Definitely worth the stop. Thanks

My first time there. The hot dogs were pretty good. I had 2 with kraut and pickle. By the time I got home which was about 7 minutes away the rolls were soaking wet from the steam in the paper or to much grease idk. Both were wrapped in the same paper maybe it was to much. I also had a small shake $12.69, 6.40 for 2 dogs with a small bit of kraut. The small shake was very frothy 1/4 of the bottom of the cup for 5.50. Next time I will drive to Jimmy’s. Sorry not sorry.
