If you like classic diners? They dont get more classic than this! Built in 1939, The Yankee Diner moved around Massachusetts a bit through the 40s and 50s and now resides in Charlton, Massachusetts and is under the ownership of the fabulous Phuong and her husband! Great menu amd great coffee and great people. A+

Yankee Diner has a comfortable, classic diner atmosphere that feels familiar and laid-back. The service was friendly and reasonably attentive, which was a highlight. Unfortunately the food was the weak point — my meal came out lukewarm and the flavors were pretty underwhelming for a diner that should be known for its comfort food. Hope they can improve the kitchen quality because the overall vibe is there.

First time here having driven by it for years. The new owners were friendly and stopped to check on us and make sure everything was OK. The food was very good. We had our usual breakfast, scrambled eggs, toast, home fries and a breakfast sandwich of egg, cheese and bacon on a bulky roll. All were delicious. The coffee was good, too. The server checked up often to top it off for us. We will definitely be back.
UPDATE: We went for breakfast today, almost a year later. The owner welcomed us back with a friendly greeting. Not only did she remember us, she remembered our order. We’ll certainly return, sooner than later! The food was delicious and the atmosphere warm and friendly.

Soo nice! We stopped here on the road from Boston to NY. Such a cute little place, the lady who served us was so friendly and lovely, and the food was great (crab cake omelette and french toast). Bottomless coffee of course 🙂 great little diner !

Went for breakfast. Very cute place, but the food was horrible.
First of all, the cook needs to scrape the heck out of that griddle. Everything on my plate was covered in black, carbonized bits of oil and food. It was awful. I don’t know how both the cook and the server see that and think “this is ok”. During very crowded times and if the cook is inexperienced, some of this is expected. But only a few tables were being served and the amount of carbonized oil all over my food was over the top. Black.
Secondly, I don’t know what else was on the griddle but everything on my plate tasted like seafood. I didn’t order seafood, why did my eggs and potatoes smell and taste like it?
We’re not going back, I definitely don’t recommend it.

The most amazing diner ever! The vibe was so classic, food was delicious, and we were greeted by the most friendly, most kind lady. If you are passing by, it’s a must go!

Small place, BIG on taste!! Not fancy, just good home cooking. We had a very scrumptious breakfast at lunchtime. Large portions. Be aware that they serve only off the breakfast menu on Sundays. Pleasant and friendly wait staff. 4 adults for $55.

We’ve been by this restaurant many times in recent weeks & have commented how we’d like to give it a try! I have a weekly medical appointment in Charlton, otherwise it’s not a town we visit often…living almost an hour away. Yesterday we decided to go for lunch. It didn’t look too busy which I liked, because I do suffer from anxiety. It was around 12:30pm on a Tuesday, which I learned from a waitress isn’t usually a very busy day for them. We walked in, noticed that they had seating available up at the counter as well as tables & booths, also a few outside options. The overall feel was very cozy & comfortable. We sat ourselves & the waitress came over after a few minutes to take our order. The menu had plenty of tasty choices, including burgers, sandwiches, & more. I like that they had comfort food like pot roast & chicken parmesan. They also offered specials. Our party of 3 adults ordered chop suey, swedish meatballs & a chili dog, along with stuffed pepper soup. We were all very happy with our meals & overall dining experience. Our waitress was friendly, welcoming & attentive. We were happy to discover a nice little place that’s new to us. The prices are very fair also, only costing around $40 for 3 adults to have lunch. Portion sizes were plentiful & we brought home leftovers. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you’re ever in the Charlton area. They also serve breakfast! Highlights of dining here include great home cooked food, low prices, quick & courteous service, in a relaxed setting. Great spot for families, friends, couples, or solo dining.

I had an excellent experience at this restaurant. The service was very friendly and fast, the food was delicious, the bathrooms were very clean, and the prices were quite affordable. You can tell they pay attention to every detail. Definitely a place I recommend and would be happy to come back to.
