The food was delicious! We got the 2-person meat and vegan samplers which each come with about 5 items. The injera was thinner than I was used to, which was great because you don’t get full as fast. The kik alecha and cabbage were especially good. We also got lentil and beef sambucas and those were just okay. We received our food in a perfect amount of time.

I’ve been here several times and absolutely love it. I always get the vegan platters.
This place should sell more: packaged spices, cookbooks, cooking classes. It has a lot to offer even if seasonally or quarterly.

I have never tried Ethiopian food before but I have to say that I truly enjoy it.

I will come back and I hope more people venture to taste new flavors.

Atmosphere is calm and soothing.

My girlfriend and I have tried various Ethiopian restaurants in Chicago and Orlando. Without hesitation, Ethiopian Cottage is EASILY the best one we’ve been to!

We ordered the lentil sambusa while my girlfriend got the veggie platter and I got the Doro Watt. I was floored by how delicious our food was. The chicken on my doro wat was incredibly juicy and tender. The sauce was perfection. My girlfriend absolutely loved her vegetable platter!

We will definitely be returning to this restaurant in the near future! Highly recommend it!

They’re a husband-and-wife team who not only make traditional dishes, but are also incredibly kind and prepare everything from scratch. Remember, the food takes time — but it is absolutely delicious. This place is a must-visit for Ethiopian cuisine.

Oh, what a find. I love Ethiopian food and this was all that! Don’t go if you are in a rush, this place is a whole chill vibe. The food was amazing, and do get the mango drink. It was so nice not to be in a loud restaurant, even the other dinners were speaking only for their table to hear. Again, it was a vibe. I loved it and I will be returning often.

I’ve been going here since they opened many years ago and I was shocked to see what the veggie platter and beef Sambosa to go looked like. First the sambusa was deep fried to black, and was inedible.
I got this on Xmas eve, and it was sloshed into a really STUPID take out container. There was no way to get it out in anything but handfuls of mixed together mush.

But the the worst is I ordered a dish with potatoes, carrots onions (no cabage) and when I got this mess onto a pizza tray at home it was .97 worth of cabbage! Like a cup and a half of cabbage!
When I called back to tell them 2 of the 4 sided on the combo tray were wrong (and even that only had 3 pieces of carrot) and was all cabage (nothing I had ordered!)
When I called I was shoked that He just started screaming at me and when I asked him if he had any interest in my feedback he called me names, said I was lying and hung up on me.
This man has sat at my table for years talking together, telling me how he was trapped in a long multi year lease in that building and how they couldn’t afford it. His wife was less talkative because her English skills weren’t good in those early years. But I had a very nice relationship with these owners for a long long time.

I spent $35 (including a generous tip) to get about 1 tablespoon of red lentils, 1 tablespoon of yellow lentils and a cup full of cabage (which I don’t like and gives me intestinal issues, featuring 3 tiny pieces of carrot. Not the potatoes, carrots and onions (Alicha Wat?) I ordered as 2 out of the 4 dishes I ordered.

I can’t get over how abusive, childish, and nasty he was to me. (I’ve been disabled and couldn’t pick it up myself, so I had an aid pick it up. she was African American). But I spoke with him to order and he knew it was me. (Really was thier biggest supporter for years and years. I used to be able to go there every week or multiple times a week, and told everyone I knew to go there.
When new patrons were there I talked up the food, and made excuses for why it took an hour to put scoops of stewed foods that were made ahead of opening onto a trey.)

If I had used a credit card I would have called and canceled my payment. It was that bad.

This couple has struggled to get and keep patrons for many years. This is a side of the owner I have never seen. But in reading other reviews I can see that he has behaved this way to many others.

I will NEVER EVER go back. I never thought I would I would ever say this about Ethiopian Cottage. But its not worth the money or the wait, and I really feel like he just put .97 cents worth of cabbage into a tiny styrofoam container and then felt like he pulled one over on me. If I could put pictures here I would.

Also how hard is it to figure out that food served on communal tray could be made “to go” by simply using a sheet of waxed or parchment paper and a pizza a box! Not a REALLY inappropriate SMALL STYROFOAM CONTAINER with compartments! Figure it out!

We have been here several times, always ordering the vegan/vegetarian combo which is very good. Last time we were very disppointed about the service.

We preferred sitting on a table with an ‘actual table’ instead of the ‘African tables’ where you need to bend down to more, depending on your height. Several tables were empty but the owner refused to get us seated there. One table would have needed to be clean, the others as we found out after several minutes were reserved. No problem but I didn’t like the way we were treated. He said ‘We could be thankful that he gives us a table at all since we don’t have a reservation.’

Sorry for the inconvience we caused when we wanted to dine in your restaurant. We never needed a reservation before. Only three tables were actually used and as the nobody else came for the rest of the evening while we ate. The owner apologized and said the other parties had cancelled.

Communication didn’t go well and we didn’t feel welcomed. We enjoyed the delicious food but we won’t come back.

My wife and I came here for a quick bite and it was so good. Their vegetarian and vegan options make it a great spot to get a Lenten meal if you’re fasting from meat.

Excellent Ethiopian restaurant with great vegetarian options. I would recommend to try the combination options they have vs the individual options. This will give you chance to enjoy lot of variety food in one dish then ordering individually. Parking is one of the issue during pick hours so you might want to part as soon as it available and walk to restaurant then try to find close to restaurant and then circling around. Make sure you try their bread option in started and tea.
