The service is truly outstanding. Every person we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and genuinely invested in creating a great experience. There’s a clear sense that the team takes pride in what they do, and it shows in even the smallest details.
The food is exceptional—fresh, intentional, and beautifully executed. Each dish arrives artfully plated and delivers even more on flavor. The profiles are layered, balanced, and memorable, with nothing feeling rushed or predictable. The wood-fire element adds depth and character throughout the menu.
The cocktail program is equally impressive: creative yet balanced, made with high-quality ingredients by bartenders who clearly know their craft. The by-the-glass wine selection is also excellent and thoughtfully curated.
From the atmosphere to the food to the service, everything works seamlessly together. It’s rare to find a restaurant where every element is this consistently strong, but The Brooklyn truly delivers.
If you’re in Richmond and looking for a standout dining experience, this is a must. I couldn’t recommend The Brooklyn more—and I’m already looking forward to my next visit.
Standout picks: the white beans with kale, the branzino, and the ribeye. The flavors were balanced, generous, and downright satisfying. Word on the street from nearby diners was that the meatloaf is a must.
Friendly, attentive staff who checked in without hovering, and we even struck up some great conversations with fellow patrons and team members.
Highly recommend, and we can’t wait to be back soon for round two!
Staff were all very friendly and obviously well versed in cocktail making. Looking forward to what y’all have in store.
Only constructive criticism I’d offer is I thought the music was a little loud for dinner time. It wasn’t super crowded, and I found it challenging to hear my friend and some of the staff there. Not a big deal. Also the front door opens right out to the street so I’d be prepared for cold gusts of wind to come right into the dining room. Maybe consider some sort of partition or something to dampen that effect. Wasn’t an issue when I was there but I was sitting about as far from the door as one could.
Hope to go back soon for dinner.
The longer I think of it though, the aged steak was just… Okay. Cooked perfect but very salty. Saved by the graces of a very tasty salsa Verde. But in Scott’s addition, I could walk 2 blocks to ZZQ and get a smoked brisket for 1/4 the price that’s arguably better, making this dish a difficult recommend.
As for the atmosphere, it’s cramped and mostly hard surfaces mean that you end up with a very noisy dinner service. I’d invite the owner to sit at a table in the corner next to the coat rack during a Friday dinner service and try to hold a conversation. With as packed as it is, I overheard 3 different dates get awkward and silent as they struggled to communicate. This place may have actually ended some budding relationships.
And I get the whole low-light appeal but keeping candles on the table in that low light makes it harder to see anything the candle isn’t pointing at– namely, the menus.
Overall, rather than fine dining, it’s just kinda mid dining
