I ordered the wing and rib tips combo (shown in the picture). I initially thought the wings would be full wings, so I was a little disappointed to see they were party wings instead. That said, they were a good size, and paired with the rib tips, the portion was filling and a good value for the price.
The rib tips had good flavor and were seasoned very well, but I really did not like how they were cut. I’m used to rib tips being chunkier pieces of meat. These however were sliced very thin. I assume this is done for uniformity and portion control, but it made them much less enjoyable to eat. There was a bone in every bite, which made eating them feel like work—constantly biting around and picking out bones. That part was disappointing. Good flavor, but not a good way to serve them.
I also tried the catfish nuggets. Again, nothing amazing, but they were good.
Overall, the food here has a very home-cooked feel, which is nice to a point. The downside is that it reminded me a bit too much of food I could make at home myself. When I go out to eat, I appreciate that homey comfort, but I still want it kicked up a notch. The catfish nuggets, in particular, reminded me almost exactly of the ones I make at home.
That said, I do think this place is worth trying, and I may return. I’d like to try their ribs next time. One more highlight—the BBQ sauce was really good. Not the South Side BBQ sauce, but the regular BBQ sauce was delicious. And despite my issue with how the rib tips were cut, the seasoning on them was on point.
Let me tell you, this meal was a symphony of textures and flavors that had my taste buds doing a happy dance. First up, the pork tips. These weren’t your average, dry cubes of meat. These were tender morsels, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Each bite exploded with juicy flavor, and they paired perfectly with the accompanying barbecue sauce.
Speaking of the barbecue sauce, it was clear this wasn’t your store-bought variety. This was homemade magic, a tangy, smoky concoction that clung to the pork tips and likely would have made a cardboard box taste delicious.
Now, onto the french fries. Forget those sad, limp excuses you sometimes get. These were a golden, crispy dream. Perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of fluffy potato on the inside, they were the ideal delivery system for the barbecue sauce. And let me tell you, the portion size was epic. There were enough fries to satisfy even the hungriest fry fanatic.
But wait, there’s more! The chicken wings. These weren’t just any fried wings, oh no. These were seasoned to perfection, with a secret blend that had me wondering what magical herbs and spices they used. The crispy skin gave way to juicy, flavorful chicken, and the barbecue sauce added another layer of deliciousness.
Overall, this meal was a knockout. Our waitress/ server Jill was amazing. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and had a very sweet personality. The tender pork tips, the unbelievably seasoned wings, and the piping hot, perfectly cooked fries were a match made in flavor heaven. It was a feast fit for a king (or queen) of carnivores, and I left feeling satisfied and wanting more. Highly recommend!
We stopped in late night, after the holidays, and it officially became our new favorite place! We walked in late night on a Friday and were made to feel very welcome.
The bartender Trina was super nice. She took care of us right away, we got our beers (They even have Werk Force on draft, love that they support local breweries!) and she took our order. Our food came out fast and hot.
We ordered the cod dinner (fish was so good, that tartar sauce was fab, I usually dislike tartar), greens, mac and cheese, wings and a Chicago St. Polish.
I am not usually a big meat eater other than fish but the wings and Polish were freaking fantastic! As was the mac and cheese… holy hella yum! And I had never had greens like that, such flavor!!! Everything! You could tell they put their love into making their food.
We finished eating and after enjoying kareoke, the DJ started playing all my favorite old school dance songs, the bartender even got me out on the floor! I hadn’t danced in years… but she brought me out there and made me feel like we had been friends for years, it was such a blast!
The place was fairly busy but everyone seemed happy and it just had this comfortable, fun, happy atmosphere. Everything was very clean, looked nice, we fell in love with the food, the place, the service and the people.
That night, I was so excited about going back, I actually had a dream about the food and the next day we went right back! Lol we were hooked.
This time, we ordered more greens and mac and cheese, as well as the brisket and also the brisket chili. Oh and the cornbread dipped into the greens and the chili too, the sauces… we even got to try a sample of their pork belly tips. HEAVENLY. All. Of. It.
How have I been missing out on all this FLAVOR my whole life?!?! We met the owner the second night and he was super nice too. We love their story and their food. We cannot wait to go back.
Plainfield, you must visit. Be patient if it is busy, it is well worth the wait (if you have to wait). This place turned me into a meat eater. Lol I am SO impressed and hungry for it again now typing this, darn it! It was THAT GOOD.
Thank you to Piggy’s and all the people we met there, you all are the best! See you soon, cheers!
P.S. These are just some pics, my phone died, but I plan on taking more next time. 🙂 Also, sorry I wrote so much, just really excited about this place!
