A Vibrant Vietnamese Bar Experience in San Jose: Ba Na
Reviews
I arrived a bit late, around 9 p.m. The parking lot was dimly lit and fairly empty. When I walked inside, I was surprised to find the restaurant small, dark, and with very loud music, giving it more of a bar-like atmosphere than a dining one. Only about three tables were occupied.
A waitress with very short skirt and a tight, low-cut T shirt that exposed maybe 40% of her breast greeted me and asked if I needed a table for one. The lighting was so low that I had to use my phone’s flashlight to read the menu. Several dishes in the menu that I requested were unavailable, so I settled on a salad and a beef dish. While taking my order, the waitress also seated two other guests, brought them beer, and then sat closely to one person, seemingly to discuss their choices.
During my visit, a woman approached my table offering to tell my fortune, which I politely declined. A few minutes later, a gentleman came over and asked if I would buy him a drink. I smiled and declined, and he courteously thanked me before moving on.
At that point, I decided to request my meal to-go rather than continue dining in. When the food arrived, I paid my bill of $74 plus a tip and left. Back at my hotel, I found the food to be tasty, the beef was tender, though the portions were a bit small.
Overall, I learned an important lesson: online restaurant reviews may not always capture the full picture of the dining experience.
The food has very good flavor profile.
