I’ve been visiting the island for business for well over 10 years and have heard mixed reviews about Tequilas Restaurant at Mauna Lani. On March 6, I decided to check it out for myself and see if the feedback I heard was accurate. Since I travel a lot for business, I rely heavily on reviews but sometimes you just have to experience a place firsthand.
I’m really glad I did. I ordered the mixed fajitas with chicken and steak, and they were amazing great flavor and perfectly savory. I also tried the molcajete chips with avocado, and they couldn’t have been more authentic. The taste was excellent. I had a freshly made hibiscus drink as well, which was refreshing and clearly not one of those premade versions.
Overall, if you’ve heard any negative reviews about this place, I’d recommend coming and trying it for yourself and forming your own opinion. I’ll definitely be stopping by again on my future business trips to the island. The owner and hostess were both very welcoming, and the service was amazing.

I thought this place was pretty good overall. It’s situated on the 2nd level of the shopping center, so you might miss it if you didn’t look up. Apparently they just reprinted their menu, but the vegan options completely disappeared! That was disappointing. But apparently they still make the cauliflower tacos. I ordered them and they were delicious. But I’m sad that the vegan options disappeared from their new menu. Having vegan options on menus is a huge deal for us vegans and it’s not hard to make. I hope they reconsider adding them and more options as well in the future.

Come here IF you have high blood pressure, have a sensitive stomach and the doctor recommends you eat hospital grade food.

We ordered the Molcajete Guacamole, Chicken Poblano tacos, and Asada Fajitas.

There was almost zero salt in all three dishes. This really messed up all the dishes. There was no flavor in the dishes.

The guac was pricey – we expected something special but got an uber bland avocado mash. The corn tortilla chips were hard and lacked flavor. The poblano chicken tasted like boiled chicken and was bland. The fajitas were tasteless and the corn tortillas didn’t feel authentic.

We came here because of the rave reviews on here claiming that this was the best Mex food on the island and as good as anything in Mexico. I call BS. I have had lots of Mexican food elsewhere and there is NO comparison to what you get here. It hurts to realize that this experience was expensive and awful.

The one guy who said that Taco Bell was better and the other review that said food was bland was on the money. I wish I had seen those review before

On the positive side, the drinks were great. Come here for that. The service was decent too.

First, it was kind of hard to find this place because it seems to have two different business names on Google, and there’s just a small sign near the stairway to get upstairs to get to the restaurant.

When we got to the front door we noticed that the place was empty. Obviously then, we were seated right away. We ordered the guacamole as an appetizer and it was okay, but that’s when things started to go south. We ordered the carnitas nachos and the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and they came out in a reasonable time. I was asked whether I wanted red sauce or green sauce for the nachos and I picked red sauce, but when I tasted it it was vinegar forward and almost tasted like a weird spaghetti sauce. My wife couldn’t cut through her enchilada and once she finally got through it with a knife she noted that it was cold inside. It’s pretty rare for us to send anything back but this was unacceptable. We flagged down the waiter and he apologized profusely and said he would remake the enchiladas. I finished my nachos by the time the new enchiladas came out, and they were much better. The only issue was the green sauce was just about as weird as the red sauce. Unfortunately not a good experience.

I’ve eaten in Mexican restaurants all around the world and this is the first one that didn’t taste like a Mexican restaurant. I don’t recommend.

Somethings were great, others not so much. I loved the swiss chicken enchiladas and recommend them. The guacamole was good. We didnt get the Molcajete of guac but it looked great. The rice and beans were ok as well as the ceviche, nothing special. The poblano chicken tacos and the fajitas however were both very bland. Portion sizes were good. Service was ok. Being a chef here on island, I’d definitely come back and try again.

Found this place when we were missing a little bit of home while here on our honeymoon. As a couple of SoCal residents, absolutely 10/10 food. The service was amazing, the owner is so sweet, and they don’t mess around with their margaritas. Leaving drunk and very happy. Thank you!

Love this authentic Mexican restaurant that’s almost hidden in the Mauna Lani shopping center. The scrumptious chicken enchiladas are a just reward for the scavenger hunt that is locating the front door (upstairs above the taproom). Super friendly, family run restaurant. I’m cheering you guys on!

We just happened upon this restaurant. If not for the sidewalk sign we would have missed it. They were closed when we strolled by, but we just wanted to check out the menu anyway. The chef and staff were very personable and invited us back when they were open. We had lunch later and were very happy. The margaritas are made with fresh lime juice. NO bottled mixes. Being from Texas , we appreciate that detail. We tried the chorizo queso. It was wonderful. Creamy and just the right amount of chorizo. Our server mentiond the tequila flights, how it worked, and recommended a tequila we were unfamiliar with. My partner decided to try and loved it. ( kind of the point of doing a flight 🙂
I had ceviche with fresh ono and my partner had street tacos. He loved the chorizo and carne asada. The pollo was ok but he felt it needed more seasoning as it was a bit bland. My ceviche was excellent although draining some of the juice off would have made it easier to eat. We can not wait to come back on our next west side adventure. Just a note, they are still listed at this time under their previous restaurant name on Open Table and IG -Alebrije , if you have trouble getting info or want to make reservations.

This is by far the BEST Mexican restaurant on the Island! Not only does it have a huge selection of Tequilas, but the food is delicious! I am a super picky eater and they did an amazing job at making my burritos and tacos exactly how I wanted them. The staff is very nice and accommodating!

I visited here with a friend who is an executive chef of a nearby very popular restaurant. We were both happy with the service, beverages, and meal. The largest point to mention is the value. Good portion sizes at very reasonable prices considering the resort setting. Guac appetizer was large with plenty of chips. We both had the Swiss chicken enchiladas as our main. Plenty of cheese, chicken, good flavor, and lots of sauce. Beverage wise, everything was good and the horchata is going to leave me with a craving later. Considering the price points, clean facility, and portion sizes, I’d come back to satisfy a Mexican cuisine craving. The new ownership has either fixed issues noted in other reviews or the review writers exaggerated their experience. Special mention to the team working, everyone was friendly and had good energy.
