Edit: IT WAS SO GOOD!!
I came here to try out restaurants in Elkins Park outside of Philadelphia. I was actually headed somewhere else but the place was closed, and we decided to look for a Jewish deli.
We only tried a few things today, but the red/purple potato salad and the Pastrami Reuben are top notch. The coffee was also quite pleasant, but standard. The Ruben was packed with meat and had the perfect balance of seasoning. Not too salty, just enough to keep you going for another bite. The potato salad had some subtle sweet herbs I hadn’t tried before, possibly a type of seed mixed in. It wasn’t overly sweet or salty, just had a very cold and fresh taste, better than I have generally had before. I’m not a potato salad person but this was a good meal and really hit the spot.
Prices are ok, standard for this post-covid world, but as a Friday morning treat, this was a good trip.
The restaurant/deli is known more for the mix of Jewish, Israeli, Middle-Eastern, and Mediterranean foods that are featured. Nevertheless, the Pastrami Reuben is a classic that you should try if you’ve never had a good one before. Other people add too much salt, not enough meat, don’t toast the sandwich up enough, etc., but the gentleman working here really understands a good sandwich.
Be sure to try the shawarma and falafel platters and to get some hand-sliced lox and whitefish salad from the deli counter! The chicken shawarma wrap is incredible and so is their falafel wrap. And if you get the hummus to eat there, it’s warm and soooo good.
