Atmosphere is great but a little loud inside. Service was good. Steak was decent but I was hoping for exceptional. It was a 1 inch thick cut so not the typical steakhouse size cut. Probably not a pat lafrieda. Certainly cant compare the steak to a jasper stone, wolfgangs, ruddy and Dean, or even ruth chris steak. The rest of the food was very good, fries were excellent. Got good feedback on the appetizers from everyone at the table.

The quality of the food, the history of the location, the class of the staff, and the ambiance of the restaurant justify eating here even if it’s slightly more expensive than other restaurants nearby.

Founded in 1731, it’s a Revolutionary War site where then site owner Joshua Huddy of the NJ militia battled with local loyalist Steven Lippincott in 1782. An incident leading to the Asgill affair, an international problem between Washington, the British, and the loyalists including NJ Governor William Franklin.

I would recommend visiting the place at least one time, especially if you are interested in World history; particularly that of NJ, the UK, the USA and the American Revolutionary War.

I stayed at the Hotel next door and walked over every day for a Caesar salad which was delicious.

Thanks for taking care of me, Colts Neck Inn Steakhouse!

Updated Review. I tried the competition’s Caesar Salad on Monday while this lovely restaurant was closed. The Caesar Salad at the Colts Neck Inn Steakhouse was far larger, had more quality cheese and dressing, and delicious crostini. The competition cost less, but was also much more inferior in quality and value in my opinion. You get what you pay for. I recommend eating here if you’re debating whether to try them or their competition.

This is one of the best steakhouses I’ve ever been to! Where the ambiance is historic charm meets modern sophistication, you’ll need to have your next date night here.

For appetizers, we started off with the garlic parm chicken drumettes. The chicken was so juicy and I adored the presentation. The garlic cheesy cream was the sauce of my dreams.

The french onion soup came bubbling over with that cheesy pull we all love. It’s a steakhouse staple!

And yes — they even serve fresh sushi! The rainbow salmon tuna roll was a sushi dream wrapped in every bite and made for a unique menu addition.

Dinner stole the show — the spicy vodka rigatoni packed bold flavor and heat, making it a great meal for those who love a comfort meal with a kick. The filet mignon was melt-in-your-mouth perfection, cooked exactly how a steak should be, with a nice helping of mashed potatoes and asparagus.

And just when we thought it couldn’t get better… dessert. The warm, house-made bread pudding was insanely comforting, and the rich chocolate cake? Fresh from the owner’s daughter’s bakery (Fancy Cakes NJ) — a sweet family touch you won’t find anywhere else.

If you’re looking for your next dinner spot in Colts Neck — trust me, the Colts Neck Inn Steakhouse is worth every bite!

Overall, the experience was mixed. The steak was alright, but I wouldn’t recommend the porterhouse. The halibut was very good and the highlight of the meal. We also had to ask for bread while other tables received it automatically.

My girlfriend and I split our entrées and had about half of the porterhouse and halibut left. We asked for it to be wrapped up, waited about 20 minutes, and were then told it had been thrown out by mistake because they assumed we didn’t want it. Our waiter was kind and offered to remake it, but we ended up waiting about an hour total.

When the manager came over, she was passive-aggressive and asked if we really wanted them to “recook leftovers.” She specifically said halibut can’t just be microwaved and has to be baked, implying it would take extra time and effort — which felt unnecessary since the mistake was on their end.

They did remake a full piece of halibut, which we appreciated, but only gave us about three small pieces of steak instead of replacing the large portion of porterhouse that had been thrown away. The bill was already expensive, and we spent another $50 at the bar while waiting. A gesture like drinks or a gift card would have gone a long way.

The bartenders were excellent — very kind, and one even made my girlfriend a great custom drink. Unfortunately, the way this was handled makes it hard to recommend the place.

Lovely place, but could use some plants to give it a cozier feel. Super nice staff, food comes out a little too quickly. Yes, I would definitely go back there.

First time visiting. First up, we tried the salt and pepper calamari, and the filet mignon sliders as appetizers. Calamari was on point, but the real star was the plate of sliders. I don’t know what sauce they put on this. I don’t know what they do to prepare it, but this was absolutely incredible. The filet mignon melts in your mouth and the flavor was off the charts. That set expectations high for the main course. Which for us was the Bone in Pork Chop and the CNI Cheeseburger. My wife had the pork chop and said it was absolutely perfectly done, all of the sweet potato, apple and sauces were perfect. I decided to go with the cheeseburger because I like to level set at a new place. Cheeseburger is pretty easy to get right, but also pretty easy to get wrong. I asked for medium rare and this was cooked to perfection. The fresh hand cut fries were seasoned so well and so perfectly that nothing was needed. No salt, no ketchup no nothing. Another burger was nothing short of amazing. Whatever seasoning, however they prepare this thing. It is one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life. Everything was absolutely incredible and we loved the entire meal. We were so full that dessert was gotten to go. And it was the chocolate cake layered with moose, cheesecake, buttercream icing, and a few more amazing things. Easily could feed two or three people. And of course, the decor of the place was great, it was comfortable, you are not on top of everyone, it’s not loud, it’s just a very enjoyable environment. The staff were impeccable. They were on top of everything. You didn’t need to ask or look for someone, they were definitely top flight. I will absolutely be back. The food was amazing, the service was amazing, the place is amazing, I definitely want to go back when it’s not 0° out and we can enjoy another meal. Highly recommend this place.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars! Our server Brian was absolutely fantastic bringing us a plethora of drinks, and making the most amazing food suggestion suggestions!

You must get the bang, bang, shrimp, any and all of the sushi to start. The lamb chop chops were also quite tasty!

For dinner, you must get a steak, and try the rigatoni vodka ..It is creamy delicious absolutely mind blowing!

I can highly recommend the raspberry Leche martini and also the espresso martini for dessert! The cake was just incredible and also this delectable bread pudding. I cannot wait to go back

First time. Literally the best food I’ve had in a while. 10/10. I go to a lot of restaurants and few are memorable. This one is definitely a core memory.

The atmosphere in here is very nice and it feels warm and cozy. We sat on the outside of the bar in the booths closest to the road by the windows.

Amber was our server and she was fantastic. She constantly checked on us made sure we were happy, never let a drink get half empty and told us to take as much time as we needed and didn’t make us feel rushed at all.

For the appetizers we got lamb chops, tuna tartare and the steak sliders. The lamb chops were delicious, like butter. The steak sliders might have been my favorite thing, the tuna was very good as well (note: it’s frozen packaged tuna, not fresh) and I think they use chips straight out of a chip bag. I think a nicer touch would be a house made chip.

For dinner we had a ribeye and a NY strip. The ribeye was cooked perfect, very tasty with a good fat to meat ratio, and the strip was also very good and tender. The French fries are delicious by the way that come with the strip!

Overall I feel this place is very good. I don’t think $24 for apps is completely worth it I think they’re a bit overpriced for what you get (3 steak sliders, frozen tuna, with chips out of a chip bag) but everything was tasty. I will definitely be putting this place on my list of restaurants I frequent and I look forward to coming back soon!

My husband and I checked out the newly renovated Colts Neck Inn Steakhouse. Overall, it was a good experience. I had the pan-fried halibut, and my husband tried the spicy vodka rigatoni—both dishes were satisfying. The waitress asked if my husband wanted chicken with his pasta dish and he said yes. Within a few minutes, the waitress returned to let us know that there was no more chicken. That seemed a bit odd. Also I found the salad prices to be a bit excessive—a reasonably priced dinner salad would be a nice addition, especially when ordering a main course.

The decor could use some improvement—everything was gray, which made the space feel dull. Adding a few bold colors (prints or drapes) would really liven up the atmosphere. Additionally, a solid wall between the bar and dining area would help separate the two spaces. It was very distracting to have a clear view of three large TV screens and a bustling bar whenever I looked across the table to talk to my hubby.

The service was slow at first but improved as the evening went on. A nice touch was the manager or owner personally visiting each table to check in on guests, which showed a genuine care for customer satisfaction. Overall, it was a decent experience with room for a few improvements.
