Having lived many years in Hong Kong, I’ve become pretty particular about Chinese food. I think a lot of places here lean toward the Americanized version, and while there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just not always what I’m craving. I tend to miss the depth and balance of flavors I was used to.
Last weekend my husband had a serious hankering for Chinese food, so we decided to try China Dragon, Gulf Shores.
When we walked in, Ren, Lin and Quay were so warm and hospitable. Although they were trying to learn English, they were able to communicate via google translate and it worked well.
And the food? So good. The portions easily lasted us two meals. The hot and sour soup honestly reminded me of what I used to have in Hong Kong. I asked if they could make our dishes more authentic, and they were happy to accomodate. Everything was flavorful without being overly salty.
Don’t let the 3.6 reviews stop you. If you’re looking for authentic Chinese food around here, this place is the one to go to!!

We ordered chicken cashew chicken
And broccoli and pork dumplings. Ate a tiny bit and sadly threw the rest away. Chineese food is our favorite and I honestly would have been happier with McDonald’s. Sorry. Just feel like I read reviews often to make restaurant choices so I felt I should let people know.

Very pleasant, homely Chinese restaurant. The staff was very sweet, and we were served extremely fast. Loved the quiet atmosphere and the antiques on the walls. We were the only one in there which was kind of sad, because the food was great. We ordered the shrimp lo mein and the sweet and sour chicken. And no complaints here. The sweet and sour chicken was particularly good.

Been coming here for several years, food has changed, house chicken was ok but black pepper sauce was terrible,rice was very sticky,hot and sour soup wasn’t even edible. After all these years we will not be returning. Must have had a change of ownership or staff. It’s certainly a shame ,it was very good. food at only a year ago.This was a take out order.

This is one of the very few Chinese restaurants in the area that is not a buffet. The food came out fast and was hot and fresh! Definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants we have come across. Reasonably priced and food is better than all the lukewarm buffet styles that are off of 59.

This is my first time ordering from here and that process (online) is a bit kludgy so I may just call the next time. It wasn’t a problem – just seemed a little harder than it should be.

I will say this was my first visit here: Normally I get Dragon City in Foley but was at beach and wanted to pick up something different. The beef and the broccoli beef was super tough and I couldn’t even eat it. The Sesame chicken was ok but not good. The fried rice bland and the veggie spring roll under cooked. i’ll try it again next month but this was super unimpressive.
