You can tell a place is special when the aroma hits you before you even step inside, and when people are happily digging into their takeout before leaving. Hathaways Chicken-n-Biscuits definitely gives that vibe.
I love discovering longtime mom-and-pop restaurants because they feel like hidden treasures. This spot has that classic southern grandmother’s kitchen energy—warm, cozy, and full of heart. It is southern comfort food at its very best.
The restaurant is clearly a local favorite, with steady customers coming in and out. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. The cashier noticed I was new and took the time to guide me through the menu, suggesting the Businessman, which I gladly ordered.
Every bite showed care and attention. The tea and lemonade were perfectly sweet, and the fried chicken was crispy with just the right seasoning. The sides were excellent as well, especially the green beans which had a nice firm texture, not mushy like at other places. And the best part is how affordable it all was, under ten dollars.
Even as a first-time visitor, I felt completely at home. This will definitely not be my last visit. If you are in Monroe and craving warm hospitality and delicious southern food, Hathaways is a must-visit.

Stopped by for lunch today. While my order was correct, the food was disappointing — the chicken just wasn’t appetizing. I brought it back, and after waiting about 15 minutes and asking about the delay, I was told everything was being cooked fresh. Unfortunately, the whole process ended up taking over 30 minutes, adding about a 2 hour delay to my day. They did apologize and offered a half-gallon of iced tea for the inconvenience.

Great locally owned restaurant in monroe that has been serving the community for a while now. While the chicken is good, in my opinion, it lacks some of the spices and seasonings of KFC or Popeye’s, that said, over the multiple times I’ve eaten there, the chicken hasn’t been overcooked. While you pay for the amount of chicken you want, in my experience, they have always been a bit generous on the sides, giving you more then probably what you pay for.

The fried chicken was delicious. I tasted crunchy, glorious (!) chicken, skin, and seasoned batter. I got a 2 piece, but it should have been 4.
I got wedges. They were soggy and luke warm. I also got mashed potatoes, which were on point with the gravy and yummy.
Why 2 potatoes? Well, it’s interesting, because their menu is confusing. Combos are named such as “Working girl” and “Business man”, cute and antiquated names for menu items. They don’t mean anything to me, so in my clusterfuss to order, I got 2 potato sides and 2 pieces of chicken. Shame on me.
Service was okay for me, (looked horrible however, for everyone waiting for to-go).
The atmosphere is a country fried chicken spot… to the T.
I’ll be back to try different sides, but moreover, to order chicken for friends and claim that I made it. Strong chicken joint.

Great friend chicken. Chicken tenders are not little chicken tends they are big sized and very good. Potato salad was good a little small but good. Mac and cheese was good and cheesy not from a box. The potato wedges were good as well.If you want a good chicken dinner here it is.

I’ve driven by this place in Monroe so many times.. finally decided we’d stop there for lunch. The only thing bad I can say is I wish I would have stopped sooner lol. The food was so good. We’re ready to go back again. Staff was friendly.. it was busy but also lunch time. 100% recommend you stop by.

Hathaway’s Fried Chicken ‘n Biscuits is the best! I got the 3 Piece Tender Dinner w Double Tater Wedges and sweet tea and Sam got the Popcorn Chicken plate w Mac n Cheese and Tater wedges! Always cooked golden brown to perfection! Hot, fresh, fast, and all of the girls up here are so nice! Thank you Hathaway’s! We’ll definitely be back!

Hathaway’s a longtime staple in Monroe. It’s off 74/Roosevelt and east to find. Order at the counter, grab a seat, some sweet tea and wait for your styrofoam plate to arrive.
The fried chicken is fantastic. You can get white, dark or mixed plates. The skin is crisp, the meat juicy and flavorful and the sides are homemade. We’ve tried the mashed potatoes, potato salad, slaw and fried okra. All delivered.
It’s clearly a local joint with a loyal following. Service is quick and nice. There’s plenty of parking but lunch does get packed so you may have to use the outside patio. A great choice for fried chicken if you’re in the area and passing through. Check it.
