The 2 guys working were very nice and fast, I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.
Family owned, great atmosphere and they remember their loyal customers. We’ve visited so frequently that we’ve seen the kiddos go from just helping mom to now running the front. Also some good modern updates as they deliver on the apps now so we can get these delicious tacos whenever we want!
They have a great variety of tacos, chicharrones, tamales and cold bottled or canned drinks to go with your meal. I don’t know who we have to bribe for this barbacoa recipe, but its always delicious and flavorful! The meat can be served lean or marbled, doesn’t taste mealy or overly greasy. Whether you order by the pound or by individual tacos, the servings are generous and they pair great with the in house salsas!
A frequent customer over many years, this is our go to for the best barbacoa in San Antonio!
It was not. I got 2 breakfast tacos. One was a barbacoa and eggs and the other was eggs and bacon. Two small salsas were also provided. Total cost: over $10.
I thought, “Surely there’s also potatoes in these.”
Nope. No potatoes. The bacon and eggs was decent. A good amount of bacon, but definitely way more egg. Would I turn this down? No. Would I pay $5 for it again? Also no.
This place is known for its barbacoa. Ok cool. So I made sure **before** I even tried the barbacoa breakfast taco to just try the meat alone. I wanted to see what the buzz was about.
It was tasteless and unseasoned. Basically a giant pile of boiled, shredded meat was scooped up and slapped onto my eggs. I went in for a second bite. Same result. No flavor. I was shocked.
I’m not certain what the prices were for each. Initially, when I saw him ringing it up, I saw him type in $3 and some change and then $2. And then he told me it was over $10. Was I being charged extra for the salsa? What was happening here? While the staff were nice and friendly, I felt like I got ripped off.
Normally I will try to return to see if maybe I caught them on a bad day. I was the first customer there so maybe they hadn’t had a chance to season the meat or maybe they forgot. But at these prices and with this recession, no thanks. Save yourself and avoid this place. It does a disservice to the amazingness that is breakfast tacos.
Editing because the owner replied and asked “Why would there be potatoes involved?” No other questions or comments were made in their reply.
The point that I was making was that $5/taco seems a bit steep for just eggs and some meat. In that moment, I wondered if I was going to get more in the taco and since potatoes are a common addition, that’s what I wondered. These tacos are not special and are not worth the money that I spent.
Called to get a refund and owner seemed like I was annoying him. Said they couldn’t reverse the charge and I’d have to come back in two days to get my money back.
So I paid $13 for some sad looking potatoes and a few tortillas.
They’ve always been rude here and I’m shocked that their health score is even as high as a 94. Will stick to local businesses that actually know how to run a restaurant.
