Paid $20 for 2 barbacoa tacos that were dry and bland and 2 Mexican cokes. I asked for the cilantro and onion to be on the side and was charged $1. Rude service and mediocre food. The only reason I rate this place 2 stars is because I actually enjoyed the extra spicy salsa they offer. Wish you guys the best but if you’re charging $5 a taco I would at least expect condiments to come included. Will NOT be coming back here.

Best food! Open Wed-Sun 6:30 am 1:30. Seriously must come and try it out! We found it by accident and now will make it a staple in our stops! Great good great service! 5 stars for sure!

I ordered one bean and cheese taco and one chorizo and bean and both were really good! The beans are VERY runny/liquidy though. That could be said as personal preference. The price came to around 6 dollars for 2 tacos. They’re about $3 something each for some. There are other places you can definitely get them for cheaper but if you just need something quick, this is your spot.

The 2 guys working were very nice and fast, I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.

This, THIS is the place to go for barbacoa. Reminds me of the tacos we would get as a kid as a “special breakfast” on the weekends.
Family owned, great atmosphere and they remember their loyal customers. We’ve visited so frequently that we’ve seen the kiddos go from just helping mom to now running the front. Also some good modern updates as they deliver on the apps now so we can get these delicious tacos whenever we want!
They have a great variety of tacos, chicharrones, tamales and cold bottled or canned drinks to go with your meal. I don’t know who we have to bribe for this barbacoa recipe, but its always delicious and flavorful! The meat can be served lean or marbled, doesn’t taste mealy or overly greasy. Whether you order by the pound or by individual tacos, the servings are generous and they pair great with the in house salsas!
A frequent customer over many years, this is our go to for the best barbacoa in San Antonio!

I usually get donuts for my kids on Saturdays at the Shipley’s next door. I decided to check this place out to see if it was worth an additional stop.

It was not. I got 2 breakfast tacos. One was a barbacoa and eggs and the other was eggs and bacon. Two small salsas were also provided. Total cost: over $10.

I thought, “Surely there’s also potatoes in these.”

Nope. No potatoes. The bacon and eggs was decent. A good amount of bacon, but definitely way more egg. Would I turn this down? No. Would I pay $5 for it again? Also no.

This place is known for its barbacoa. Ok cool. So I made sure **before** I even tried the barbacoa breakfast taco to just try the meat alone. I wanted to see what the buzz was about.

It was tasteless and unseasoned. Basically a giant pile of boiled, shredded meat was scooped up and slapped onto my eggs. I went in for a second bite. Same result. No flavor. I was shocked.

I’m not certain what the prices were for each. Initially, when I saw him ringing it up, I saw him type in $3 and some change and then $2. And then he told me it was over $10. Was I being charged extra for the salsa? What was happening here? While the staff were nice and friendly, I felt like I got ripped off.

Normally I will try to return to see if maybe I caught them on a bad day. I was the first customer there so maybe they hadn’t had a chance to season the meat or maybe they forgot. But at these prices and with this recession, no thanks. Save yourself and avoid this place. It does a disservice to the amazingness that is breakfast tacos.

Editing because the owner replied and asked “Why would there be potatoes involved?” No other questions or comments were made in their reply.

The point that I was making was that $5/taco seems a bit steep for just eggs and some meat. In that moment, I wondered if I was going to get more in the taco and since potatoes are a common addition, that’s what I wondered. These tacos are not special and are not worth the money that I spent.

Spent $13 ordered 1 potato and egg taco and 2 potato and egg with cheese. Picture is what we got…
Called to get a refund and owner seemed like I was annoying him. Said they couldn’t reverse the charge and I’d have to come back in two days to get my money back.
So I paid $13 for some sad looking potatoes and a few tortillas.
They’ve always been rude here and I’m shocked that their health score is even as high as a 94. Will stick to local businesses that actually know how to run a restaurant.

Went a little hard on a Saturday night and had some local peeps stay over. Everyone woke up hungry so I mentioned Mimi’s. I had huevos rancheros and it came with papa’s(potatoes), refried beans, and 2 tortillas and I added bacon on the side, a 2L big red and everyone else had breakfast tacos. My plate was delicious. I didn’t even share. Barbacoa continued to be the top on the convo. They didn’t want to order a pound of barbacoa(barbacoa trust issues). So they ordered tacos to test it out. First, the taco could of probably made 3 of them. 2nd, they wished they had ordered that pound. They even mentioned that the barbacoa from here was better than what they are use to having. The green salsa was a hit(pica pica) as well as the pico de pallo. They were very nice and awesome. Cant wait to try everything else they have to offer.

Yesterday’s steamed tamales sold to me today. They also tasted spoiled. Like I don’t know how tamales supposed to taste or even look. Nasty just gross and undeserving of even the one star I had to give.

I recommend Mimi’s for their barbacoa. The “All Meat” is tender, flavorful and not greasy like other places. The price is a bit high but worth it. I don’t recommend the tamales though. This was the second time getting them and were soggy having a higher masa to meat ratio. They are kept in a plastic bag which is probably why they’re soggy. The tortillas are ok so I mainly only get the barbacoa from mimis and the sides at other location. Customer service is always good. I plan on trying the Tacos soon but I always get caught up with buying a couple pounds of barbacoa cause it’s the best in san antonio. It was $36.85 for 1 pound of all meat barbacoa with salsa and a dozen tamales. No other items on this purchase.

I have seen this place for years and years and thought it had to be fantastic to be around for so long. I ordered 1 potato egg and cheese taco and 1 chilaquilles taco. $9.38 for two tacos is insanity. The tacos were mediocre. I’m not 100% certain, but the tortillas seem to be store bought, and the chilaquilles was just migas. I will not be returning.
