Absolutely love this place! This is a true authentic Mexican restaurant and Mexican owned, not to mention the largest and best selection of tequila in all of New Orleans! My mouth still waters every time I think about the Casa Dragones, damn was it delicious! Tried every single one of the tacos and they were all amazing! If this place was local to me I would be visiting weekly. The owner and staff here are super friendly and very generous. If you’re in Nola, this place is a must!

Love this spot. This part of town is an up and coming artsy neighborhood. We had the pleasure of going for a right before lunch rush time on a weekday. The owner was behind the bar and took care of us in a great way. Wow, is he quite the artist! His artwork and his design elements in the space is absolutely beautiful and welcoming. Quite a treasure for New Orleans. They do different specials every day and we came on a different day than the special I wanted, but they made me the one I wanted anyway, even though it wasn’t the day. What great service and great hosts. I loved my meal, I loved the atmosphere, and I love the hosts and everything about this restaurant, would highly recommend as the best food for South of the border in New Orleans!

We absolutely loved this place!! We were looking for restaurants within walking distance after seeing a show at the Ashe Performance Theater. The food was great, and came out piping hot (I got the Flautas and my partner got Enchiladas). Service was lovely and the manager/owner was so nice. Definitely recommend checking it out, they even have live music occasionally!

Casa Borrega competes for the overall best Mexican food in New Orleans. At least, from our local point-of-view, Casa Borrega is our personal favorite!

It’s hard to go wrong with anything on the menu. The food is not the typical super cheesy Tex-Mex. It seems to be more authentic Mexican food (but they still have great queso!). The mole is phenomenal! Elotes are another do not miss!

I’m not a huge mezcal fan. The smoke aspect to it isn’t my thing, but they have great mezcal and non-mezcal drinks. The margarita of the day was massive!

The overall cost is a little more expensive than some other Mexican restaurants, but we felt it was worth it.

The inside and outside of the restaurant are very well designed with lots of cool stuff. The ambiance in the back with the lights is excellent!

Casa Borrega has a delicious menu and some of the best margaritas in the city, but definitely more expensive and smaller portion sizes than your average mexican restaurant. But this is not your average mexican restaurant so you are paying for the quality of food and authentic ambiance. The outdoor seating transports you to a different place. Be prepared to pay for your chips and salsa and face an up charge for queso or guac. Menu is also pretty limited, but the fajitas were delicious. I would recommend that they place more fans in their outdoor seating area. There were a ton of flies and mosquitoes. Also, there are no high chairs or booster seats for infants or toddlers.

Wow. First time here. Had some people say it’s great food but bad service.
I disagree.
It’s great food, great drinks, friendly staff, and a RELAXED atmosphere. Does the staff rush around, take your order, rush back with food, etc?? No. They DO take their time with each table, explain specials, ask about your evening, etc. No one is dogging it here. We had a great time, stayed and talked a long time, talked to 2 or 3 of the waitstaff, the bartender, one of the band members. This is a Mexican family atmosphere. No rush, let’s talk.
Small store front, the a classic pick up truck in front with a neon “OPEN” sign in it. Come in to a bar area and indoor seating, band in the corner. Friendly bartender got chips and guacamole with an AMAZING salsa made with poblano, and guajillo, and Serrano peppers, burst with flavor and heat on the back end. Muy sabor!
We waited to be seated in the open back area. About 15 minutes, which went by fast with a great band to listen to.
Had a cute young lady server (Allison), who gave us the rundown on the specials, and made us fell welcome (as did the bartender in front).
We tried a flight of mescal, which is 4 shots of mescal from various regions. Durango, Guerrero, one mixed with Tamarindo, and one I can’t remember (lol). Very different flavors, and fun to try. They also have a huge selection of tequilas.
THE FOOD: I had the Borrega de Oro (lamb marinated in tequila cooked in banana leaves with grilled nopalitos and cebolitas. Tender meat, very tasty… with nopalitos on a corn tortilla was delicious. This is great stuff. Classic and well prepared. My friend who would be my gf, had chille rellenos. Traditionally made and very flavorful. Both entrees were reasonably priced and well worth it.
Overall I can’t say enough about the experience. If you look at my other reviews, you will see if don’t give 5 stars often. The food, music, atmosphere, drinks, staff and feeling of welcomeness push this over the edge.
And I didn’t even talk about the walls covered with kitschy items to look at.
The washrooms are clean and omnisex (for use by anyone). Good to see.

One of the best Mexican restaurants in New Orleans, with a new menu more focused on tacos and mezcal based drinks. I used to live in the area, and now live in Thailand, and this id on my list of places to go when I go back for a visit! Gracias!

Incredible and authentic Mexican food. The owner is a wonderful person willing to share his great life stories. The mezcal selection is unparalleled, and there are cocktails to help the uninitiated ease into a wonderful new world. Can’t recommend it enough!

Lovely authentic family owned & operated restaurant & bar with outstanding service & atmosphere! We enjoyed our time at the bar with the owner mixing us some of the best margs we’ve ever had! Plan on returning soon to try the food. Limited hours of operation due to it being family run, but do yourself a favor & make plans to get here asap!
