I have never in my life took time out of my day to write a negative review but, my experience at Mercato on Main this afternoon left a horrible taste in my mouth; literally & figuratively.
I ordered two steak sandwiches for my mother & I, a small Caesar salad & an “iced espresso” I was charged for onions on the sandwiches even though on Uber Eats when I’ve ordered the same thing it came included. The total comes to nearly 50 bucks for the bill, the cost of everything nowadays is egregious I’m not living under a rock but, I really wish I got a good meal out of 50$. For my espresso I hear the girls behind the counter unsure on how to prepare it. I stay quiet & mind my business. What they came up with, it was a real shame. 5 dollars for a hot small shot of espresso with ice lodged into the small cup so i could barley get any fluid out of it. I bit my tongue & waited for my food, this really made me mad though, a simple google search could have been made to make the drink but instead I got that garbage. I wait 20 minutes or so for my food in a pretty much empty restaurant. I start to leave and I check my bag & no dressing for the salad, which is neither here nor there, I simply asked for it & they apologized, it just kind of shows their careless attitude having me walk out with not everything I paid for. I get to the car & we start eating the sandwiches. The meat is cold, the bun is cold, there’s excess fat on the steak & after eating it I start to feel instantly terrible pit in my stomach. This sandwich should not of been served, it was not up to temp, obviously in the danger zone & upon coming home made me vomit. I really have enjoyed my past sandwiches at Mercato but, they’ve lost me as a customer with their laziness & lack of food handling etiquette. You can get people very sick serving food like that. DO BETTER.

I have been meaning to write this review since December. We had ordered catering trays from Mercato for a Christmas party – the Meat Lasagna tray and the Eggplant Parmigiana tray, and the food was a hit! I was hesitant about ordering at first as I had never tried their food, but they truly delivered. The trays were generous, the food was hot, fresh, and incredibly flavourful, and guests immediately started going back for second and even third helpings.

Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The meat lasagna was rich and hearty, and the eggplant parmigiana was perfectly cooked with great flavour. People kept commenting on how good everything was throughout the evening. In fact, the food was such a success that several guests even asked if they could take leftovers home with them!

If you’re considering catering for a party or gathering, I would definitely recommend them. The quality of the food exceeded my expectations and helped make our Christmas party a big success. We will absolutely be ordering again in the future.

I had a wonderful experience at Mercato on Main in Newmarket. I stopped by for a cappuccino, and it was absolutely delicious—smooth, rich, and made just right. ☕️

The service was impressively fast, which made the visit even better. The staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming, creating a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere from the moment I walked in.

I also picked up meat and cheese slices from the deli section, and the quality was excellent—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly sliced. Everything was handled quickly and efficiently without feeling rushed.

Overall, Mercato on Main is a great spot for quality coffee, fresh deli items, and outstanding service. I’ll definitely be coming back again!

Bambini miei, let me tell you something—from the heart. If you live in Newmarket, Aurora, or anywhere nearby, this bakery should become your go-to. Not just “a nice place” to try once… a place you keep in your life.

The minute you walk in, it’s warm. Not only from the ovens—warm like a family home. You’re greeted kindly, you feel welcome, and you can tell right away this is a family-run place that cares about what they put on the counter. They’ve only been around since December 2019, but everything about it feels old-school Italian: simple, honest, and made properly. No shortcuts. No pretending.

And the food—mamma mia. Everything tastes like it’s made from scratch, the way it should be. They carry Italian products you won’t find in the big supermarkets, and the quality shows. Super Bowl Sunday, we had tacos at home, but I still went there for dessert—because some things you don’t compromise on. I picked up cannolis that were freshly piped right then and there. Fresh, creamy, perfect. That’s not a small thing, you know? A good cannoli tells you everything about a bakery.

This is why it’s a go-to spot:

* When you want a quick coffee to go that feels like a little Italian moment in your day
* When you need treats for guests and you want people to say, “Where did you get these?”
* When you want a good bite to eat without the flash—just real flavor and real care
* When you miss that homemade feeling and you want it back, even for five minutes

So I’m telling you—everyone in Newmarket, Aurora, and the surrounding areas: go check it out. Support this kind of place. Once you find a bakery like this, it becomes part of your routine… because it’s that good, and it feels like home.

Great coffees, gelatos and Italian sandwiches, and friendly & helpful staff. A casual atmosphere, great for chatting with friends or sitting and working on a laptop. You can even grab some groceries here (meats, cheeses and sauces) or take it to go! Another Main St. jewel.

Went to get some deli meat and fresh buns. We were the only people in the place when we arrived. Asked for buns we wanted and no problem there. Told girl we’d like some cold cuts and she told us someone was at the counter. Someone was not and we had to wait for service. Service was terrible. It took over a half an hour for the guy to cut 300g of meat and 5 slices of cheese. Once I had my cold cuts I returned to the counter to pay for our purchases. Had to stand there for another 5 minutes as the girl and guy at the take out counter were preparing sandwiches and having conversations. I finally had to interrupt them and ask if she could cash me out. I mentioned to the girl that the guy on meat counter was incredibly slow and rather then apologize for the poor service I received what can only be described as a snarl and dismissal. I’d only been in this place once before and was thrilled to find a real Italian deli in Newmarket. Unfortunately after today I won’t be back.

I had the best croissant of my life at this place—absolutely exceptional! The cake was also quite good, though the cookies were just okay. The staff were super friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. With decent prices and a pleasant atmosphere, I’d give it a 5 out of 5 for the croissants alone. Highly recommended!

Authentic Italian perfection. From the porchetta with all the fixings to the rapini rotolo, eggplant parmigiana, arancini, and pistachio ricotta cannoli—every bite tasted like home. My 15 guests couldn’t stop raving. Delivered hot, on time, and full of heart. Truly outstanding. Thank you Mercato

Really disappointed today. Their beet salad used to be amazing. 10$ for a small takeaway container. Used to be worth it. Today we got some slightly herbed beets without any of the usual ingredients. It’s been awhile since our last visit and not sure we will be back anytime soon. Too bad!

The bakery fridge looked sad, with only one slice of each cake on display and they all looked stale. Actually over heard one lady returning her cake slice commenting : “ this cake is old”. Ordered ricotta cannoli, pastel de nata, veal sandwich and a coffee. The pastel de nata and coffee were ok, nothing spectacular , the ricotta cannoli is horrible, the cream filling looked soooo white and over-aerated , like cool whip, and I could barely taste any ricotta. The veal sandwich was the best item , it was averagely ok . Perhaps stick to the savory items.
