Amazing little Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Newcastle. Warmly greeted as you walk in, beautiful ambient atmosphere. Lovely chairs & tables. Food was served fast & absolutely delicious. Great flavours, reasonably priced & generous size dishes. They also had a special offer 10% discount for cash payment. We will definitely be back.

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!! On the side of the bowl is literally a live maggot!!!! I am honestly shocked by what we experienced with Viet King. My partner ordered a beef pho through Uber Eats, and there were live maggots in the bowl. We have photos. It was absolutely revolting and extremely concerning from a food safety perspective.
This is not a small mistake or a minor quality issue — this is a serious hygiene failure. No customer should ever open their food to find insects in it.
When we called the restaurant, they simply told us to contact Uber and did not take responsibility or show genuine concern. That response made the situation even worse.
We will be escalating this to the appropriate food safety authorities. I would strongly advise others to think carefully before ordering.

I appreciate the owner of Vietking for taking the time to contact me and conduct her investigation in relation to the band-aid in food incident. Owner listened and provided reflection. Owner provided great customer service and took seriously to do the right thing. Owner refunded the bill and gave additional $ as I could not get a voucher due to not being a local in the area. I would rate 5/5 for the owner’s service, and I changed my overall rating for Vietking from 1 to 4 stars.

A very nice evening dining experience had at Viet King, seated outside in the lovely garden area, under an umbrella, in a torrential downpour, only added to the Vietnam ambience!! Service was friendly and attentive, courses came out nicely paced. The only let down was at the end when we were served a completely different dessert than ordered, without explanation, and on enquiring were told “we stopped making that tonight” desert went untouched, it was a shame as everything else was perfect.

We had a great Vietnamese dinner! I loved the crispy pancake; we had never encountered it in any other Vietnamese restaurants before. The spring and summer rolls were good. The crab rice and beef bonfire were also good and had large servings.

Only had vegan starters but they were amazing. They had lots of vegan options. One of the sauces had fish so need to be clear if ordering vegetarian/vegan. Lovely jungle-like setting out front and the staff are lovely. Food arrived quickly. Recommend!

This place was recommended by my friend Laura. We didn’t even realise it was International women’s day until my friend Emily mentioned this, which made it an extra special night.
Our hometown Port Macquarie does not have enough choice when it comes to Vietnamese food, which was extraordinary and very delicious, especially the cocktails.
The waiter we had was also very attentive, patient and kind. The roses and free dessert added a special touch to a memorable night. Next time we’re in Newcastle area we will definitely be back to visit.

Very disappointed. Ordered the beef salad and whole barramundi. Beef was poor quality and way over dressed and fish was bland! It had no seasoning, flavour or sauce, I had to ask for salt and lemon. The beer list was super basic, no pale ales and they forgot to bring me the beer, until reminded. The staff were quite unfriendly and loud. You could hear the chef yelling a lot and the main floor guy didn’t seem to care much about anything really. Would definately never go back

Fancy interior, a little too posh compared to the usual Vietnamese restaurants I’m accustomed to. The service from the waiter was good. I was expecting self serve.
The food was great, smaller portion and a bit on the pricier side. Was satisfying to taste some Vietnamese food from this part of NSW with a smaller community of Vietnamese people.
