Black Diamond Bar & Grill is hands-down the best spot on the mountain—and the low rating honestly makes no sense.

From the moment you walk in, you feel it. Theresa and her husband are two of the most genuinely kind and welcoming owners we’ve met anywhere, not just on a ski hill. That energy carries through the entire place.

We’ve been here four times now, always after a full day of skiing or snowboarding, and every visit has been exceptional. Incredible beer selection (some of the best I’ve ever had), consistently top-quality food, and an atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer than planned.

The staff deserves real credit. Fin, our server from Wales, is an absolute gem—hilarious, attentive, and unforgettable. Every other server we’ve had has been just as fantastic, which says a lot about how this place is run.

As for negative reviews—some people miss the point. Black Diamond gets the things right that actually matter: great people, great food, great drinks, and a welcoming vibe you can’t fake.

My wife and I already know we’ll be coming back for years. This is our favourite place on the mountain, no question.

Our first visit with a family group of six. Clearly understaffed as we waited and waited for drinks and meals, whilst the owner or manager wafted around doing nothing. Some of our meals were ok, but nothing special and our ‘tenderloin’ was half fat. Pic attached and I can only say it was a disappointing experience in what could be a first class venue given the right leadership..
Too many better options in town, try Sopra above Snowshoe Sam’s!.

Was not a good experience.

2 out of 3 martinis of the espress flight tasted like actual soap. It eas gross

Food and drinks took forever.

The coconut hot chocolate was really good. Except when asked for a second one the manager came out told us the rumchata was out and was really freaking rude.

Food do get the pear and brie flatbread

Dont get the cheddar burger. Overcooked and definitely not waygu.
The yorkie dip was also lackluster. The au just was grossly thick.
If your gonna charge that much for food make it good.

Its got a good location and the fires outside were nice. Our server was super nice and it was out of her control but like dooo better for the price.

The inn its located in. Definitely needs a facelift the bathrooms are from the 2000s.

The Black Diamond has a genuinely nice atmosphere, especially acoustically. The place was almost full, and even with a loud table next to us, we could still hear each other without shouting. That’s rare, and worth real credit.

The food, though, was a mixed bag.

I’ll start with the prime rib. The meat itself was cooked perfectly and tasted great once I scraped off the gravy. Which raises a fair question: is that how prime rib is normally served in Canada? If so, that one’s on me. But if not, why take a good piece of meat and drown it in mediocre gravy? The gravy didn’t add anything, and if anything, it got in the way.

Ironically, the mashed potatoes were excellent and had no gravy at all. Go figure.

Then there was the asparagus. Any competent chef knows you snap asparagus at the natural breaking point so the tough ends come off. Here, it looked like someone just trimmed about half an inch from the bottom and called it good. The result was tough and stringy until you got a third of the way up the stalk. I’d much rather pay a little more for less asparagus if it’s actually tender.

My friend had the blackened chicken and said it was good, but she’d never had blackened food before. Just looking at it, it didn’t appear especially well executed. Which brings up another concern: there’s a lot of sauce happening here. Good food shouldn’t need to be buried under sauces to be enjoyable.

Overall, the room and the experience are strong. The kitchen feels like it’s close, but not quite there yet. With better fundamentals and more restraint, this could be something special.

Last night my friend and i had a great dinner experience at Black Diamond. Our server Kahnen was super attentive and very lovely. To top it off the food we got was incredible, brie flat bread and tenderloin steak. Despite negative reviews we cannot fault our experience.

Don, the owner, was extremely rude and hostile to us, and admitted to breaking federal law regarding trained service animals.

When we showed up for our dinner reservation, we explained to Don that our dog is my trained service animal. He said “I don’t care, you still can’t come in here. Leave now!”. We were polite and tried to reason with him, while my service dog was quietly and calmly standing next to us on leash while wearing his Service Dog vest which also had his service dog card on the harness. When we explained he could be fined for not allowing us to enter, he said “I don’t care, you’re still not getting in. I’ll deal with that when it happens”. This is a restaurant owner in the “hospitality” industry, blatantly discriminating against a person with a disability.

After reading many other google reviews, we see that others have also had issues with Don.

We recently told friends, who stay at Big White for 2 months each winter, that we recently had an issue at one of the restaurants, and they immediately said “Was it Black Diamond? Was the issue with Don, the owner?”. It’s obvious that this restaurant and the owner Don, has a long history of being rude toward guests. I recommend staying away from this restaurant if you wish to have a decent dining experience.

We have had wonderful experiences with many other restaurants at Big White who have welcomed us in with my service dog. Those restaurants include: Bullwheel, The Woods, Cabin Kitchen & Bar, Snowshoe Sam’s, and Underground Pizza.

“GET OUT OF HERE – LEAVE!”

That is how rudely and aggressively we were greeted by the owner of this restaurant, Don, as soon as my husband, myself, and our friend arrived for our dinner reservation. We had our trained service dog with us, who was wearing his Service Dog vest which also had his registered card visible on the harness, and was quietly and calmly standing next to us on leash.

Despite having made a reservation, Don said “we don’t allow pets in here… leave!”. We politely explained that he wasn’t a pet, but is a trained service animal, and he said “I don’t care, you still can’t come in here. Leave now!”. We explained to him that Federal Law allows service animals to be in restaurants. He aggressively said “I don’t care, you still can’t come in here. Leave now!”

A short while later, a lady around Don’s age, without a nametag, came running towards us and dramatically said she was “deathly allergic to dogs” (we were later told she was Don’s wife). We politely said “he’s hypoallergenic, so you need not worry.” She stood there with a blank stare on her face, about a foot away from our service animal. If she was truly “deathly allergic to dogs” she wouldn’t have been standing so close to him.

We appealed to the very polite hostess explaining that Federal Law allows registered service dogs into restaurants; she politely said “I know”. Her hands were obviously tied by the belligerent restaurant owner.

I told Don that I would like to speak to the manager, to make sure they knew they were violating federal law, and discriminating against us. He rudely snapped “I am BETTER than the manager, so get out now.”

Needless to say, I don’t recommend this restaurant. To have an owner of a restaurant blatantly refuse us entry just because we have a trained service dog is discriminatory. He obviously doesn’t care about Federal Law, cannot reason, and has no aptitude for the hospitality industry.

Instead, we went across the road to The Bullwheel Restaurant, whose hostess was polite, allowed us in, and our trained service dog laid down at our feet under our table quietly the entire time, while we enjoyed our dinner. We’ve also visited The Woods Restaurant, Snowshoe Sam’s, and Underground Pizza with our service animal, and were welcomed without any of the discrimination or belligerence that came with the toxic atmosphere that is Black Diamond Bar & Grill.

I’ve since read many other reviews that warn of this owner’s rude, toxic behavior towards guests. And in speaking to locals this week, they have all told me that they know better than to visit this restaurant. If you care about how guests are treated, and don’t want to support a restaurant that discriminates against people with disabilities, stay away from this place.

We had our first meal at Black Diamond today (January 1st, 2026) and we were very happy with our meal. My wife and I both had the Roasted Turkey dip and it was awesome. Our server was very chatty and pleasant. The restaurant has a really cozy atmosphere with a central fireplace and nice, new furnishings. We will definitely be going back.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had.

We came to Black Diamond Restaurant to celebrate my husband’s birthday and left shocked and embarrassed. The owner, Don, was overbearing and rude from the start, but things went downhill fast once the food arrived.

My husband ordered the blackened chicken. What came out was slimy, pale, and not blackened at all—completely inedible. We politely sent it back, calmly explaining the issue. Instead of addressing the problem or offering a replacement, we were told we were wrong, spoken to disrespectfully, and then kicked out of the restaurant and banned.

This was supposed to be a special evening, and instead it turned into an uncomfortable and humiliating experience. Mistakes happen in restaurants, but how they’re handled matters—and this was handled with arrogance and hostility rather than basic customer service.

I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially if you expect professionalism, accountability, or even simple courtesy. We will not be returning.
