We went for restaurant week after wandering by over the years and wanting to try this spot. We got the lentil soup, focaccia, gnocchi, & my partner got the lamb pasta dish. It was all really tasty and also very rich. We both took leftovers for the next day, as it was so flavorful. We will definitely be back. Service was attentive. The tables were squished quite close, but that gave it some charm. & felt like we were tucked away somewhere in northern Italy.

This place has the real deal Italian food. It’s not cheap, I went during Restaurant Week so I had a good deal and what they offered is not on the regulat menu, but let me tell you, after being disappointed by many an over priced Italian restaurant, this place is well worth the money. It actually delivers on delicious food, portions were also generous. Service was great and the atmosphere was fantastic too. Would return.

Il Milanese Ristorante delivered such a great experience for my family and I! The food was amazing and I can’t speak highly enough of the staff! Service was quick and kind, we could not be any more grateful! Come here for an amazing date night or family dinner and you will definitely not be disappointed!

This is the first negative review I’ve ever written. This experience was uncomfortable, and honestly unacceptable.

Food can be great, but character and integrity matter more than taste.

We wasted our 5 hours – We were told very clearly over the phone that we could be seated at the bar. The hostess did not ask for our ETA, and when I asked if they wanted to take our name or phone number, I was told it wasn’t necessary — that our seat will be secured if we just mention we had called.

Based on that assurance, we cancelled our original reservation and drove 50 minutes to get there. I proactively shared our ETA, which they didn’t even ask, and although we arrived about 10 minutes later than expected, we had received no communication suggesting this would be an issue. Given how confidently seating was promised, we fully expected there to be space.

When we arrived, we were told the restaurant was completely full and that we could not be seated. We were then told the bar was first come, first served, and that if we left our name and number, we would be contacted as soon as the next bar seat opened.

While there was not a single apology, we still left our information and waited nearby — spending unnecessary money at other bars just to pass the time.

The restaurant opened at 5 p.m., and we were aware there was a 90-minute dining limit, yet after two full hours, we received no call, no update, nothing. When we called the restaurant ourselves, we were repeatedly told “it’s still full, we’ll let you know”. We waited another hour. Still nothing.

In total, we waited from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., only to give up and drive another 50 minutes back home. Even five hours later, we never received a single call.

This was not just a wasted weekend evening — it was meant to be a very important celebration for us, tied to a major life milestone and a birthday. Instead, it turned into one of the worst dining experiences and most upsetting days we’ve had in Chicago.

At this point, it’s hard not to feel that we were either completely dismissed or treated differently, which made the entire experience deeply uncomfortable. During our interaction with the hostess, a man who appeared to be a manager was standing nearby, looked directly at us, and spoke quietly to another hostess — yet we continued to be ignored.

No matter how good the food may be, this experience ensured I will never return — nor recommend it to others.

Simply the best! After many visits, I feel qualified to say that this is a true diamond in the neighborhood. While the food is always outstanding (like truly amazing), the service and atmosphere really take the cake. Rudy, the bartender, is truly a master. Best espresso martinis in the city! Highly, highly recommend this incredible spot.

Il Milanese Ristorante brings a slice of Northern Italy to Chicago, and the food speaks for itself—simple, elegant, and genuinely good. Every dish felt like it was crafted with care, from the perfectly al dente pasta to the rich, savory sauces that linger just long enough to make you smile.

The flavors are classic but not tired, with just enough finesse to elevate the experience without losing that comforting, home-style soul. Whether you’re diving into a risotto or savoring a slow-cooked meat dish, the kitchen knows what it’s doing.

It’s the kind of place where good food doesn’t need to shout—it just quietly impresses.

Found a new great dinner place in Chicago! Il Milanese Ristorante is a beautiful place for outside dining on a lovely September evening. We started with focaccia- the zucchini one for our vegetarian daughter- and it set the mood. It was sooo good we knew we were in for a treat with our dinners. I had the Tortelloni – a sweet version of autumn. Daughter had Trofie Pesto. Husband had Tagliolini Al Limóne. We all tasted each others and couldn’t decide on a favorite. Well, I think mine was the best but theirs were delish, too! I had the Pinot Noir and it was the perfect complement. Tutto our server was extremely helpful and knowledgeable on the menu. He helped raise our experience to a whole different level. Highly recommend!

Kristin and I were welcomed with a glass of champagne. The ambiance kills it. The staff and food were 10/10. Carlo and Rudy were so attentive. The best meal we have had in a while. We will recommend this place to friends. In addition the espresso martini is the best in Chicago.

Probably our 4th or 5th time eating here, and we can’t wait to go back. Carbonara— normally this is not what I’d order because it’s usually basic… unless it’s done right. This was done right! Honestly, I didn’t realize it could taste this fabulous. The Costoletta Classica—
Breaded Veal Chop, Tomato “Chicche” Basil was outstanding. The Ossobuco with risotto was perfect (again). The mixed seafood dish was delicious. We also had the pappardelle bice, rucola & endive salads— so good. And of course, tiramisu and pistachio gelato and limoncello to end the meal. The Service is always top notch, at all levels & positions, they’re quite a team then seems to work well together to deliver a wonderful experience.

I recently visited during Restaurant Week and had an overall decent experience. I ordered the polpo, gnocchi asiago alla vodka, and the flourless chocolate cake. The polpo appetizer was generous in portion, but it fell a bit short in flavor. In contrast, the gnocchi was excellent! It tasted like soft, cheesy pillows that were truly delicious. As a big chocolate fan, I was disappointed by the flourless chocolate cake. The chocolate flavor was lost in the texture of the cake. It tasted more like a bland, regular cake rather than the rich, dense texture I expected. Overall, the service was great. I would return to try other dishes.
