The counter seating creates a relaxed, communal vibe that encourages conversation among guests and interaction with the chef, which really elevates the experience. Service is warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly without ever feeling forced. The sake menu is well-curated, the space and decor are elegant yet comfortable, and pricing feels very appropriate for the quality and care that goes into each course.
The menu changes constantly, and I loved every course—no filler, all hits. Parking is easy once you know where you’re going, and while finding it feels like a secret mission, it’s absolutely worth it. I’ll be back on my next trip to San Diego… assuming I can snag a seat. Reservations are a must.
Despite inquiring about bringing a toddler, it wasn’t until 15 minutes before our reservation that we were told they have no high chairs, no stroller space, and no extra seating. Meaning a one-year-old would have to be held for the duration of our Omakase meal at a 13-person bar. Realizing this environment wasn’t conducive to our child or the comfort of other diners, we arrived and spoke to the staff. They told us they “totally understood” and despite us specifically asking about cost they gave no indication of a penalty.
After leaving to avoid disrupting the small dining room, and being told over the phone and in person not to worry about fees, they called back hours later and charged us the full meal price ($150+/person). Had they been transparent about charging us the full amount upfront, we would have stayed because truthfully, it’s not our job to preserve their quiet space. If you allow kids, it isn’t my problem to “be mindful of your other guests experiences” and I would have at least gotten to enjoy my meal. Instead, they chose a one-time fee over building a long-term relationship with local diners.
If you have children, be warned: they don’t have a ‘no kid’ policy, but they make it impossible to bring them and then penalize you for their accommodation gap.
If you’re looking for a great sushi spot that does make accommodations and has an excellent customer experience (bonus they have a bar-top high chair if you can’t get a sitter) GO TO SOICHI!
Wow… every bite is like its own adventure. The variety of fish that was served paired with the detail of the chefs was a perfect combination that made this experience worth every penny. My favorite Nigiri’s were the Smokey Albacore and the Jack Mackarel
Service 5:
The waiters pay close attention to make sure you need anything. The chefs were really informative and were a pleasure to share a conversation with. The timing of each fish being served was perfect.
Atmosphere 3:
The place was really small and intimate. Only sits about 12 people. Inside the restaurant was nothing special. However this is what happens when the main focus is the food and service.
Over all 4.5/5
