We enjoyed several types of kimchi as an appetizer. My daughter and I had delicious tofu vegetarian dishes. My son liked his beef entree, and my wife enjoyed her pork entree.
We ordered the Dak Gal-Bee (#2) and Kimchi Boak-Geum-Bob (#6), along with green tea and jujube tea. Everything was delicious, but the jujube tea in particular was prepared so beautifully that it made me want to learn how to make it myself. The flavors felt authentic, comforting, and clearly made with care.
Service was exceptional, the owner checked on us often and made us feel so welcome, something that really sets Jib-Bob apart from larger restaurants. Portion sizes were generous, and the value was fantastic; we paid under $50 for two people and left full and happy.
This is the kind of place I’d recommend to anyone, whether for a casual meal or something special. Just note that larger groups should call ahead, as the restaurant is cozy, but the owner is flexible and will even open on closed days for groups.
Overall, it’s hard to single out just one highlight because everything, the food, the service, the atmosphere, comes together perfectly.
We ordered two different kinds of Bibim-Bob and I also ordered the kimchi/side spread. The sides were SO GOOD. the variety of flavors and texture were great. I also appreciated the spin on potato salad. I was told it was her (the chef/owner) mother’s recipe. With every dish, you can very much taste the care taken to prepare it.
The Bibim-Bobs came out and were beautiful. I regret not taking a picture of them – they looked so delicious we dove right in – especially when combined with sides spread.
Bottom line – if you are passing through or staying in Mt Pleasant, it is very much worth a trip to Jib-Bob’s. I’m so glad we were there during business hours and are planning to build it into our future trips through Michigan.
It’s a one woman show, and she does an incredible job. The ban chan, kimchi, and just about everything else is made in house. The beef was obviously very high quality in addition to perfectly prepared. The sweet potato noodles with pork were unlike anything I have had in the area. No additives, largely organic, made with love…not much more one could ask for.
I really wish this wasn’t a 2 hour drive for us
