The restaurant offers excellent food in a formal atmosphere. While some dishes can be a bit salty, the creativity, layers of flavor, and presentation are outstanding. Starting with a creative combination of bread specially the black pepper roles were amazing. We ordered the onion soup, which was exquisite. The salad resembled a beautiful floral arrangement. The sea bass was unique, and the risotto was complex. The grilled shrimp were probably the best I have ever tasted. The peach desert was nothing to write home about. A jacket is required for admission, but they provided one for me. Many thanks!

What a wonderful treat at the Greenbrier Main Dining Room this week! Our table of 3 people sampled several of the delicious appetizers including the Cream of Mushroom soup (which doesn’t always sound super exciting but wow, it was incredible!). The Warmed Brie Tart and Arugula & Avocado salad also did not disappoint. For the main course, we had the Seared Scallops, the Harissa Cauliflower and the Basil Pesto Stuffed Chicken, all exceptionally prepared and exquisitely presented. If you haven’t eaten here lately, you’re going to want to check it out as some recent very talented additions in the kitchen are producing phenomenal results! There are so many other wonderful sounding items on the menu, I hope to go back soon to try some more. Lastly, the dining room staff was professional and friendly, we were well-cared for throughout. The longevity of service of the staff really speaks volumes. Both servers had been at the Greenbrier for decades so they know the resort inside and out and delivered a high quality dining experience that we will be talking about for awhile. Kudos to the Greenbrier Main Dining Room Chefs and staff, we’ll be back! Last thing as I was adding photos…even the breads were fantastic. Don’t skip the cornbread with bacon…I don’t even like bacon but I loved these muffins.

The breakfast was fine Kathy Shelton- Manager was wonderful! – dinner food is good, unless you are a Vegan- which my daughter was- talked to the chef twice before our trip and was assured the chef would prepare something and all she could come up was an impossible burger which was served only-already for lunch at Drapers. My daughter ended up getting a cauliflower dish which came out late and cold. Waitress was absolutely rude when my husband ordered a beer -stating she was opposed to alcohol but has to offer it. This same waitress served us on one morning for breakfast as well and the order and service was again under par. I’m so disappointed with the Greenbrier food service especially for what you pay.

Breakfast buffet is decent and you can also order off the menu & they make a killer bloody maria… Dinner is very classy, you must dress up. We’ve eaten here multiple times and enjoyed it every time, no complaints. We also enjoy the piano/guitar music they play during dinner.

Excellent! The miso glazed Salmon was absolutely delicious. The service is great and of course the dining hall is breath taking like the rest of the hotel. Must dress in formal dining attire- men must wear dinner jackets and ladies elegant evening wear.

(Christmas) Main dining room functions as a buffet for breakfast and fine dining for dinner. After reading the reviews I was avoiding dining here but was pleasantly surprised on both ends. When reading the reviews consider seasonal timing.

The breakfast buffet was nice. On Christmas morning there was a omlete and custom egg station. offering inclded eggs, bacon sausage cheese blints, potatoes, biscut and gravy, fruit, wafel station and bagel station with smoked salmon.
There are 2 sides to the main dining room. There is a good side and a bad side. Try to be on the side with the windows.

In the evening the potions are small but the dining service was nice. Food was excellent. I was scared away from ordering the chicken by other reviews

The breakfast buffet is fine (but only if it’s included, otherwise it’s absolutely not worth the $40 standalone price), but the dinner is ludicrously overpriced. Dinner was bland and flavorless. Thankfully, our waitress did take my entree off our final bill.

Save your money and time by NOT eating here. I took my kids for breakfast and was disappointed in the food and the ridiculous price. I have gotten better food at the complimentary breakfast at 2 star and 3 star hotels. The eggs are powdered eggs they serve in a cafeteria. The hash browns were half cooked and gross. The pastries were dry and looked as old as the dining room itself. Waffles were dry. I could go on and on about how poor the food quality was. Service was excellent, and they tried their best. However, they add a whopping 20% service charge along with HPF fee. It’s a buffet, and you get the food yourself. Ended up having to eat the boxed cereal. For 2 kids and myself, the bill was $90!!! Embarrassing for a 5 star resort. See the other negative reviews. Should have listened to them.

Ordered a lemon drop and a aperol based drink. It took a while but once we did get our drink then the server ended spilling the aperol drink all over my new tan dress. Ended up staining my dress. Dinner was ok. We got the bill and ended up getting charged for the drink she spilled on my lap. I was not happy. I asked about it and she seemed surprised. I’m not sure why it was such a shock though. Ended up paying for the spilled drink. Ridiculous. I will never go back to this dining hall. I thought it was a little classier than that. I was wrong. I wish I read the reviews before going to this restaurant. Please believe the reviews.

I was extremely hesitant in coming here for our anniversary dinner due to my previous two poor experiences in other restaurants at the Greenbrier. My husband and I decided to go forward with our reservation because there was really no where else to go for dinner and we wanted to give the Main Dining Room a chance. We assumed this might have the priority kitchen. The server and hostesses were nice. My husband knocked a point down because the server (at a 5 star resort restaurant) was not familiar with what was being served.

We ordered a cheese plate to start. I was too skeptical to order the cheese plate, however my husband insisted. Yup, three slices of cheese from the cheese section at Walmart for $30! It was the most pitiful plate of cheese that I have ever seen for double the price. Then our food came. I got the Maryland Crab Carbonara ($65) and he got the Haddock with tomato and chorizo stew ($57). I tried his haddock and it was the most awful thing I have ever had at a restaurant. ZERO flavor in that dish, it tasted as if it was marked down haddock from Aldi’s. My dish was edible but it had no seasoning. I was looking around in the restaurant in disbelief that there was no riot forming for how bad this food was. The bill came to around $230. We decided to take the hit as a learning experience to never go to any of the restaurants at the Greenbrier. I do wish I would have cancelled our dinner reservation, some lessons are expensive. I don’t know if most of the Greenbrier clientele lacks exposure to good food or what the situation was. I did not have a single good meal at the Greenbrier. The prices reflect five star but the quality and taste reflects amateur home chef. They have tons of J-1 Visa workers & a culinary school. I wouldn’t be surprised if they “train” their J-1 Workers without cooking experience in that “school” for cheap kitchen labor. Not good. 0/10
