Gloomy Saturday in Rochester turned into a tiny comfort-food victory at Young’s Korean Restaurant — a cozy, family-run spot that’s worth the reservation they politely ask you to make. I was lucky today; it wasn’t busy and we slipped into a table fast. From the first bite it felt like a warm hug.

The Sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) arrived bubbling in a black stone pot — bright, deeply orange broth with little pockets of soft tofu that practically melt on your tongue. It’s soulful, gently spicy, and layered with savory umami — the kind of soup that clears out the cobwebs from a gray day and makes you want a second bowl. The bibimbap was a beautiful bowl of textures and colors: perfectly fried egg on top, thinly shredded carrots and daikon, tender zucchini ribbons, crisp greens and well-seasoned minced beef waiting to be mixed. Once you stir everything together the rice soaks up the savory-sesame goodness and becomes ridiculously satisfying.

The banchan spread deserves a shout-out — classic kimchi, cucumber kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, braised potatoes and silken tofu dressed with a little chili oil (see pictures). Each side is simple, clean, and made with care — small plates that keep the meal lively between steamy spoonfuls.

Service is warm and efficient — you can feel the family atmosphere in the way the dishes are presented and the friendly attention at the table. If you’re in Rochester and craving honest, comforting Korean food, put Young’s on your list — just call ahead on busier nights.

Highly recommend their specialties, sundubu jjigae and bibimbap combo.

Absolutely scrumptious. Best Korean food in Rochester by far. Been here many times and tried half the menu—never had a disappointing dish.

Vibe is very family-owned. They’ll stare you down a bit at closing time and edit your order (with the purest intentions), but I find the whole thing pretty charming.

If you’re looking for a hole-in-the-wall spot that hits, Young’s is the recipe.

Good Korean food. I came here on friday around 6:30pm and the restaurant wasn’t busy. The decor inside gives the 2000ish vibe, feels like we go back in time. I ordered Pork bulgogil and chicken gaejang. Food came out after 5 minutes and it was tasty, a long with side dishes. Since there is 1 waitress and 1 chef, it may have long waiting time if the restaurant is busy. I had to wait a little bit to get my bill, since the lady was busy in the kitchen. They are friendly, as an old couple run the business. Will come back in the future

Not authentic Korean AT ALL.
They put a lot of MSG to the food so that I wasn’t able to finish the dish.
Also, sanity is seriously concerned. There was a part of iron scrubbers in the food as can be seen from the uploaded photo…which was disgusting…
That was too much.
YOU HAVE TO CALL TO MAKE A RESERVATION BEFORE THE VISIT DUE TO THE COVID19. Otherwise owner will not be happy. It was awkward moment when I went there without a reservation.
But the lady was kind. I would rather cook myself or visit other restaurants.
Haven’t tried other Korean restaurants, and will soon try others too.
I gave 2 stars because of the service from old lady. Food itself is worth 1 star.

Food is okay. I can say that there’s a lot of MSG that was put in. Servings are huge per dish 2-3 people can eat. Read that pajun with seafood was good that was why I was expecting a lot but it did disappoint it was bland for my liking and the sauce was on a salty side, I tried better ones.

Kimchi-jjigae is my favourite among all. They served it on boiling hot pot and 2-4 people can share it. Spicy level was on point. Was able to take home some left overs and satify my cravings paired with warm white rice.

Side dishes were good. Server said they change 1-2 sides they serve everyday. Was able to take home left overs too.

The place is not that fancy like other korean restaurants around but I get it is a family owned restaurant so it has a homey vibe.

Prices are also reasonable for the portions compared to other restaurants, 3 dishes for $60 for us. Per meal costs around $12-25. Take note there’s already white rice per meal (e.g. donkatsu, kimchi-jjigae) so no need to order.

Overall, our experience was good but not the best probably will be trying some other korean restaurants around next time.

Note: You need to call beforehand. They dont accept walk-ins and they close at 8pm!

This is by far the best Korean restaurant I have tried in Rochester, NY. Every time, I visit my parents, this is on my list of places to eat at while I am home. I have had the privilege to know the Young family for many years. They both are such hard workers and bring authentic food culture of Sourh Korea to America. Their recipes are true to Korean culture. Thank you for all that you do. ❤️Good luck to your amazing business.

The server was so nice to me! Even though the restaurant was going to close in 30 minutes, they still accepted me!

For the food, they provided many different kinds of side dishes! And the Kimchi soup was delicious!

I will definitely visit again!

Lovely owners.
Incredibly kind and caring people and it makes a difference for their service and cuisine. Love every bite of the mandu, scallion salad, and kimchi pancake. The vegetable SunDu Chigae and the special shrimp cakes were wonderful.
Thank you for delightful dinner

Pretty good place overall. It was a bit strange they asked if we had a reservation but that’s fine honestly. Seems to be a small mom and pop operation and food was really good and plentiful. The beef soup was good and the bibimbap was good and huge in terms of the portions.
