I had high hopes when I saw many traditional Mexican dishes on the menu along with the fact that they offered cactus. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The cactus was pickled and not fresh, and the salsa tasted like canned tomato sauce. Steak tacos were fatty. The guacamole was already turning brown, and none of the food had much taste in general. The service was quick and efficient, but I felt like none of the ingredients were of quality. If the restaurant invested in better and more flavorful ingredients then this place could be truly authentic! Prices are good, but you get what you pay for.

+ unique salsa
+ friendly service
+ Bromine and Tantalum
+ outdoor seating
– hard to find; limited parking spaces; weird traffic pattern on North side of the building

Quaint and cute little spot. I always judge a new place by their mole & theirs is really tasty. A little Smokey, a little bit of heat, touch of bitter and a slight sweetness. Portion was more than enough. I also got a side of rice and beans and the rice was perfectly fluffy and had a really nice flavor.

Freshly prepared food that makes you feel good! I recommend the chicken tinga bowl. Don’t skip desert, especially if churros are on the specials board.

Met a friend for lunch. It has been a while since visiting and what a mistake that was. My lunch was outstanding. Chicken tortilla soup was on special. I ordered that with a side of rice and beans. The soup was delicious. The rice and beans were just as they needed to be and also great. Service was on point. It’s a cute place, not flashy. I would say they serve excellent authentic Mexican food. Not overly saucy, cheesy or greasy.

I’m mainly about the food review rather than the atmosphere. I was disappointed in my first and last time eating at this establishment. I ordered the chorizo queso, guacamole, spicy rice, and steak burrito.

Let start with the appetizers. The guacamole AND the chorizo queso were extremely bland. I personally added my own salt to both sides just to be able to finish them. I was shocked when the chorizo queso had no spice or seasoning. The guacamole was extremely basic, no jalapeño or salt to enhance the flavors. 1.5/5 and only because the guacamole tasted fresh.

The el jalapeño burrito was lackluster again. In the description it describes as “stuffed with steak, onion and jalapeños” and the only thing it was stuffed with was rice and lettuce. Very minimal steak and jalapeños and onions. Most bites were rice, beans or lettuce. I even asked for extra cilantro in mine and was let down when there was none even included. I would assume the tacos would be a better choice but based off the burrito I wouldn’t get my hopes up. 0/5

Then finally the star of everything. The spicy rice. That’s why I’m giving the food a 2/5. The spicy rice had flavor and was fresh, I would have preferred some cilantro in this as well, but it would be the only thing I’d ever order again. 4/5

I’ve been in Mahomet for 2 years and I was okay without eating here and I’m sure I’ll be just fine the next 2 years leaving this Mexican restaurant out of my rotation for ordering out.

Very tasty food, good prices, good service. Best Mexican food in Mahomet. And the salsa that comes with the chips is some of my favorite salsa I’ve had in a while!

I would blacklist this place. My sister claimed this place was great. I’m guessing it was after a few getting tipsy. I ordered nachos and all I tasted was the oil and nothing else. My wife ordered a bulldog special, but it was so bland.

My mom’s tostada was below average with nothing exceptional. The staff had zero idea about what foods they serve contain allergens. Thankfully, my toddler is who two and ate their food made it out safe with fries.

I would not recommend this place. It’s compact, the food is atrocious, and simply not a great place at all.

Breaking Taco is awesome. It starts with the unique salsa. Delicious. The entire menu is different the your usual Mexican restaurant menu in this area. Each plate is presented well. Highly recommend!

Our server was nice and the food was decent, but really nothing special. I wasn’t a huge fan of their salsa, and the chips were not cooked as well as they looked. Would be worth trying if you want a Mexican meal, but not sure if I would travel very far to eat here
