Loved our first time at E.L.K. our server was Will and he was very attentive. We felt like our food came out very quick. We started with the deviled eggs. The classic is the way to go! It had so much flavor. The hot honey eggs were good but didn’t have a lot of kick like expected. For our main entree we got the roasted chicken which was humongous and a cheeseburger. Both were delicious! A must try is their banana pudding. OMG it was so good! So good I forgot to take a picture of it before finishing it. Their “elk bars” which is their version of rice crispie treats was really, We were not expecting it to be salty but the sweet and salty combined made it interesting. We would definitely get everything that we ordered again! Looking forward to our next visit here.

My biggest piece of criticism: why aren’t there more deviled egg flavors/options?

My other thoughts are intended only to be constructive criticism for a new business:

– The food and drinks were solid. The chicken was great and I especially liked the sweet potato fingerlings and carrots/mushrooms. The ELK bark dessert (I think that’s the name of it…) was tasty and salty in a good way, but extremely sweet which maybe isn’t for everyone. I feel like some special toppings/garnishes like fruit, sprinkles, or chocolate might be interesting to offer as an option.

– Since we went while it was very cold out, all patrons were packed into the fairly small building. I could see this limiting business capacity in inclement weather, so maybe having a way to seal up the outdoor seating (heaters, protective tarp to keep the heat in) might help maximize capacity in winter months.

– The experience felt a bit too expensive for what it was. Certain things like the small wedge salad are definitely overpriced. Honest opinion ‍♂️ and the reason for docking a star.

– Will definitely be going again. It’s great to see more cuisine options popping up here in Monroe NC.

Best grilled chicken I can remember having! I got the speckled bird. Such great flavors. My husband’s burger was also amazing, he got the whos your daddy. I wish we would have ordered the elk fries, they looked amazing too. Definitely going back!

Tried it out when my family was visiting from out of town. Delicious food, excellent service, cool environment. You can tell the quality of the beef for the burgers was top notch. Will definitely be back.

What a pleasant surprise! Loved the hot honey deviled eggs, pimento grilled cheese, grilled chicken leg, and amazing romaine wedge salad. Lucky to experience this place on opening night.

We went to a soft opening and got take out, both were great. I can’t wait to try the full menu as the other food options will be more my speed. The person who left a one star review because of them not being fully open yet, has clearly never opened a restaurant and/or cares nothing about the success of a local family owned business.

What a wonderful experience!! The service is impeccable, food is delicious, and the atmosphere is very comfortable and cool! Jason, the owner and head chef, has everything figured out for a successful business. He trained and worked in NY but returned to his hometown of Union County to start this restaurant! We will definitely be back! The burgers, wings, pimento cheese, and chicken sandwich were all delicious!

We had such a great experience at ELK.

Let’s start with the cocktails because WOW — they were amazing. The Black Cherry Mules were perfectly balanced, refreshing, and not overly sweet. The Sweet Tea Margaritas were smooth, flavorful, and honestly dangerous in the best way. Easily some of the best cocktails we’ve had in a while.

We polished off the appetizers in no time. Dottie’s deviled eggs were amazing — the perfect balance of creamy with just enough bite. I’m a huge fan of pickled anything, and between the eggs and the slaw, this was an absolute treat. Bright, tangy, and so well done. And the banana pudding? Absolutely great. Comforting, nostalgic, and done right.

Now the burgers… phenomenal. Cooked exactly medium, juicy, and full of flavor. And can we talk about the buns? Absolute perfection — soft but sturdy, held everything together, and never got soggy (which honestly makes or breaks a great burger).

Everything just worked. The food, the drinks, the execution — you can tell they pay attention to the details. ELK is one of those places you leave already planning your next visit.

We will definitely be back. ✨

This was our first time dining at the E.L.K., and we were not disappointed! The wings, burger, chicken sandwich, and sides were served quickly and hot. Made from scratch food served with a heaping side of good attitude. What’s not to LOVE. We’re hoping to make this place our regular spot!
